Abstract

Background

Medicinal plants are known as sources of therapeutic agents for many years. The aim of the
present study is to open new avenues for the development of medicinal uses of Tetrastigma
leucostaphylum leaves for in vitro thrombolytic assay, Anthelmintic assay ,Cytotoxic assay and
Phytochemical screening of the methanolic extract.

Methods:

In vitro Thrombolytic assay was used to evaluate the clot lysis effect of different extract
concentration of methanolic extract of T. leucostaphylum along with Streptokinase as a positive
control and distilled water as a negative control. In case of in vitro Anthelmintic assay levamisle
was used as a standard drug to compare the test results. The results were interpreted as time
taken for paralysis and death of the worms. In vitro cytotoxic assay was done by the Brine
shrimp lethality bioassay.

Results:

In case of thrombolytic assay, average lysis of the blood clot was found 26.08% as compared to
standard Streptokinase’s 56.62%.In case of Anthelmintic assay

. Cytotoxic assay showed positive result and LC 50 was 22.76µg/mL. Several chemical
compounds were present in case of phytochemical screening.

Conclusion

In this study Thrombolytic, Anthelmintic, Cytotoxic activity of methanol extract of Tetrastigma

leucostaphylum were investigated. The result showed mild thrombolytic effect, moderate
anthelmintic effect and significant cytotoxic effect.
