CASE STUDY “THE BODY SHOP”


ANSWER # 1
 The case study is about ‘The Body Shop’ company. The Body Shop established in
1976 by Anita Roddick in Brighton with selling 25 naturally-based skin and hair
care products at beginning. Now, it involves the product categories like:
fragrances products, bath and body products, skin care products, hair products,
men fairness products as well. The Body Shop now owned by parent company
(L’OREAL corporate group) that means they have L’OREAL support. The Body
Shop focus on the statement of ‘profit with principles’ that means to make a profit
but with a wider social responsibility. Their aim is to ensure the fulfillment of
human rights, environmental rights and civil rights as well. The aim is to meet the
customer need, customer relationship and customer satisfaction.

ANSWER # 2

 Assessing the company’s performance becomes simply a question of comparing profit


levels with forecasts and targets. The owners’ prime objective is to maximize their
wealth. The company possesses different stakeholders and groups. These different
groups, or stakeholders, may have different priorities. The way the business operates
affects them and their expectations may influence the way a company sets its
objectives and how it seeks to achieve them. Senior managers must run the
organization in such a way as to satisfy the different groups of stakeholders. This may
not be easy and conflicts of interest may develop. Priorities may have to be agreed
and compromises made. The managers’ jobs may be made harder as the different
stakeholders’ objectives may change over time according to how the firm is
performing. In theory, if the shareholders are dissatisfied with the performance of the
company, they can remove the Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting.
Their objectives may be different from other stakeholder groups and their measures of
success may conflict.

 The mission statement is also about the campaign on the


protection of human rights, environmental rights and civil
rights too.
 Another mission statement is to work to narrow the gap
between the principles and practice, by taking care of
employees, making fun, passion and so on. They should do
great care of employees, celebration, give praise to each
other, be like supportive team, etc.
 They should focus on nurturance of employee’s abilities and
give them rewards regarding their position.
 They should highly focus on the advertisement, and brand
marketing factor.
 The Body Shop mission statement is to dedicate their
business to the path of the social change and environmental
change. Changes can be implement through contribution to
better performance, work of employees should be done in a
better way, and good position of organization in a
competitive industry.
 To fulfill and balance the needs of all the stakeholders,
shareholders, employees, customers, supplies, franchises as
well.
 Another mission statement of the Body Shop is about the
economically sustainable element that meets present needs. It
involves the factor that they ensure about the profit of
business, long-term success, and proper allocation and
utilization of resources.
 They contribute to local, international, and national
communities that adopt the fundamental values like trust,
fairness, honesty, respect and responsibility which give
courage to them to act in the face of adversity.
