Theme A difficult situation of a girl being pulled left
and right between her mother’s wishes for her to be a violin prodigy and her father’s attempt to help her branch out for a social life, which ultimately results in the murder of her therapist.
Setting A rich province in Manchester, England, 21st
century
Exposition Scarlett never liked going to school. Bearing
the side glances and hushed whispers of all her classmates around her was almost too difficult for her to do, but at least she could avoid her mom’s suffocating grasp for a couple hours a day. “Maybe she’s in a better mood today”, she thought to herself on the limousine-ride home, but she highly doubted it. Scarlett had to live through one of the biggest fights her mom and dad have had in a long time. She comes back home to find her mom frustrated, leaning on the counter as she rubs her head with her index and thumb. “My mom doesn’t allow me to leave the house if I haven’t done my violin practice for the day”, her mother recalled in an exasperated sigh. Here we go again.
Conflict The murder of Scarlett’s therapist (external),
and her struggle under her mother’s authoritarian grip on her (internal).
Rising Action Scarlett’s mother stops her from seeing her
therapist.
Climax The murder of Scarlett’s therapist.
Falling Action Scarlett starts to connect the dots as to who
murdered her therapist as she secretly works with a child investigator. Resolution Enough evidence connecting Scarlett’s mom to the murder puts her in jail, and Scarlett grows up with her dad as she continues to explore her passions.
