PROPOSE

Rationale
The shift from conventional learning to online due to the Covid-19 pandemic is a phenomena we need
to embrace and face. This reality calls on for an innovative way to address behavioral concerns that
may arise while the students at the comforts of their homes attend their online classes. The Discipline
Policies on this matter will also have to adjust to answer the needs of the students to guide them and
create a sense of order at the same time forming them. Having classes online is not a hindrance for
discipline, in fact this is were discipline on a personal level is needed since students will be working
without the supervision of the teachers.

Objective
To create an online polices which will guide Liceo Students on how to conduct themselves in their
online classes. (b) To strengthen the polices online of the Discipline and Formation Office. (c) To
address possible discipline problems and cases in online classes.
Scope of the Policy

• Acceptable usage of internet by all Students within and outside the School premises.
• Anti-cyber bullying
• Improving awareness of intelligent usage of social media websites
• Smart usage of educational and information sharing websites
• Etiquettes of electronic communication

Definitions

Electronic Information - Means any information stored, processed, generated and transmitted by an
information technology device in the form of text, images, sounds, numbers, letters, codes, signs or
otherwise.

Information Program - A set of information, instructions and orders executable by an information


technology device and designed to accomplish a specific task
Information Network/Internet -A data communications system that interconnects information
technology devices

Electronic Information System - A group of software and devices for processing and managing
electronic data, information, messages or otherwise

Electronic Document - A record or document that is created, stored, generated, copied, sent,
communicated or received by electronic means, on a tangible medium or any other Electronic
medium and is retrievable in perceivable form

Website -Data access point on the Internet

InformationTechnology Device -An electronic, magnetic, optical, electrochemical or other device


used to process information and perform logical and arithmetic operations or storage functions,
including any connected or directly related facility which enables the device to store information or
communication”

Social Media - websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate
in social networking. (e.g. Facebook, Tweeter, Instagram etc.)

Proposed Policies
A. General Norms of Conduct Online

Lasallians always exercise utmost etiquette in the use of social media and internet as efficient tools
that bring about communion a truly Lasallian mission. It must be an instrument to build bridges rather
than disunity, an effective tool for information and not to sow disinformation. At its best it can spread
truth but at its worse in can spread lies. With these underlying principles the following are the general
norms in the use of social media and internet.
a.) Always keep your passwords private. Do not forget to log out whenever you use your account.
b.) Lasallians observes respect and do not bully anyone in social media, complains are best answered
when it is in a proper forum.
c.) Always be conscious of what you share, be sure if the source is valid. Sharing fake news is
tantamount to spreading lies.
d.) At all times be respectful in your dealings in social media.
B. Specific Norns of Conduct/Policies
1.) Prepare your self for your online classes. Be mindful of how you look online. Dress up
appropriately (no revealing clothes, preferably smart casual)
2.) Set up your home environment in such a way that there is no distraction whatsoever as you are
literally attending classes.
3.) Set-up your virtual background it must be decent, not revealing, offensive to others and
destructive to other’s attention.
4.) If the teacher’s request to have an online lecture via zoom or whatever platform put on your
camera and put off your microphone so that others won’t hear the noise at the background. Put it
on only when you have questions or if your are being asked by your teacher.
5.) The teacher will record students misbehavior and report it to the Discipline Office.
6.) Attendance policies will be in effect.
C. Students’ Responsibility
• Ensure they do not divulge any information about themselves or other persons on social
media or through any other form of electronic communications over the Internet
• Not disclose their home address or telephone numbers.
• Never upload any images of themselves or others without permission.
• Not Plan or arrange appointments with anyone they have met on the Internet
• Take proper measures if they receive any message that is inappropriate or makes them feel
uncomfortable. They should immediately inform an adult they trust
• Ensure they are not exposed to information or images that might harm them or cause them
discomfort or harm.
• Speak out against cyber bullying and immediately get in touch with parents or the DFO.
• Avoid trying to access websites that have adult content and are restricted
• Not damage computers, computer systems, software, or computer networks
• Respect themselves and all other users through good network etiquette
• Say no to plagiarism and give due credit to anyone whose work they are using for educational
purposes
• Help in raising awareness across School of acceptable and smart use of internet

D. Parent’s Responsibility
• Monitor and enforce their children making them aware of the importance of using internet safely
• Involve their children in regular discussions regarding the different challenges that are presented
through the internet
• Ensure that the children are aware of the acceptable internet discipline and the consequences if
the rules are broken.
• Maintain clarity and consistency on what is permissible and what activities are unacceptable.
• Assume complete responsibility for monitoring their children’s use of internet at home and
outside School.
• Have complete awareness of cyber bullying and ensure that the children are not being subjected
to it in any form through monitoring and discussions.
• Inform and work with the School if any misuse is reported or found
• Seek help and support from the School in case of any incident that involves cyber bullying
specially when it is between Liceo Students.
• Be well informed about the work or projects given to the children to rule out any misuse. In case
of any concerns check with the school immediately.
• Provide the school with email address (must be working).

E. Policies in the Use of Social Media


1. Posting or sharing of any derogatory remarks in forms of words, memes, video etc. which put a
fellow student, faculty, personnel or staff of the school which are demeaning or injurious to the
rights his/her person.
2. Posting of nude and obscene languages pictures in all forms of social media.
3. Comments on a post which are demeaning, or having sexual connotation.
D. Academic Dishonesty
Cheating is a form of academic dishonesty and it has no place in Liceo. The students are
expected to prepare for their lessons every day and do their academic requirements and
activities.
To strengthen the Lasallian Values Formation Program the following sanctions are imposed
on students who will violate this policy:
1. During Online Quiz
Cheating in any form during a test or quiz will forfeit the student’s score for that quiz.
The student should be reported to the Discipline and Formation Officer in writing. The
deportment grade for that specific quarter is B- and the student will be put under
Disciplinary Probation (DP). The next offense will put the student under Strict
Disciplinary Probation (SDP) and a C in deportment.
2. During Online Examination
Cheating in any form during the quarterly assessment will automatically fail the student
in that particular subject for the quarter because he/she forfeits all previous scores. The
student should be reported to the Discipline and Formation Officer in writing. The
deportment grade for that quarter is C and will be put under Strict Disciplinary Probation
for one (1) Semester.
3.) Any actions such as but not limited to (a) posting at any social media platform any
academic output (unless required), conversations, discussions, images etc. (b) using,
duplicating any file or official documents and academic requirements from Liceo LMS
(Canvass) is prohibited.

E. Reporting of Violations
1.) Any teachers or student has the right to report any violations or offense by a student committed
online in any of the following https://www.facebook.com/liceo.dfo or in Liceo de La Salle Discipline
and Formation Office Facebook page or email us directly at liceodfo@usls.edu.ph

2.) The DFO will conduct inquiry upon receipt of complaint and inform the student copy furnish the
parents or guardian regarding the complaint.

3.) The DFO will follow the steps and procedures based on student handbook.

Sanctions: Any violations of Liceo online policies may lead to suspension of LMS account based on
severity of the offense after due process. Sanctions stipulated in the student handbook also applies.

* Student Discipline Polices will still be in effect.
* Violations under the following Laws are also considered as student violations.
