PERFORMANCE NOTE

This transcription of Bach's famous Sicilienne from the Flute Sonata in Eb is intended to create a concert version for Piano
Duet making full use of the unique warm sonoroties which four hands at one keyboard can provide.

The accompaniment is shared between PRIMO and SECONDO, and both players should create a well blended bed of
sound, which gives the effect of one player without allowing the texture to become too thick or heavy.

The SECONDO bass line with held   and short  should give the effect of Pizzicati so there is a held bass, but there is no
heaviness. The melody should always float above, or stand out from the accompanying texture, even when the solo line is
buried deep in the SECONDO line. Dynamics should be carefully observered, particularly in the imitative passges, and when
both players have the melody spaced two octaves apart then the lower part must be given priority whilst the higher line must
be added softly, as if imitating the sound of a harmonic on a stringed instrument.
