THE MOTH PRESENTS:

ALEEZA KAZMI

COMPREHENSION CHECK

1. What was Aleeza excited about the self-portrait project?

because she had been practicing and was excited to show her friends her
new skills. Aleeza thinks peach is a good color to use because all her
friends used peach.

2. Why did she think peach was a good color to use?

She knew that she was just like her friends: personality wise, activity wise,
clothing wise, and every other way. All of her friends were using peach,
so she thought that if all of her friends did that she could too.

3. What did Ms. Harrington do that upset Aleeza?

Mrs. Herrington told her that she was not allowed to use the color peach to
represent her skin. She then proceeded to give Aleeza a dirty brown crayon
that she portrayed as disgusting.

4. How does Aleeza finally take a stand?

Aleeza finally takes a stand by telling a boy in middle school, "who are you
to tell me i'm not brown?"
