RULES OF SIMPLE SENTENCES (INDEPENDENT CLAUSES)



Rule 1: Simple sentences (SS) can be very short.
Rule 2: SS can be very long.
Rule 3: SS can be declarative (affirmative), negative or interrogative.
Rule 4: SS can have a verb in any tense (past, present, future), mood (indicative or imperative),
or voice (active or passive).
Rule 5: SS can have a compound subject.
Rule 6: SS can have a compound predicate (conjugated verb).
Rule 7: SS can have a compound subject and a compound predicate (conjugated verb).
