3. ABOUT PROFIBUS DP
3.1 Outline
In addition to the AXFA11 magnetic flowmeter high grade remote converter which is a sophisticated product with
outstanding reliability and ease of operation, developed on the basis of decades of field-proven experience.
PROFIBUS DP is the international standards IEC61158 and IEC61784 and is a manufacturer-independent PROFIBUS
DP for applications in manufacturing, factory automation.
The enhanced functions of PROFIBUS DP/V1 are required to set parameters not only cyclically but also non-cyclically
and operate the system.
The combination of a replaceable electrode type flowtube and diagnostics to detect the adhesion level on the electrodes
dramatically improves maintainability.
The AXFA11 also employs the fluid noise free “Dual Frequency Excitation Method” and the newly added “Enhanced
Dual Frequency Excitation Method” as an option for more severe applications to ensure higher stability and quicker
response.

Note: The “Dual Frequency Excitation Method” is Yokogawa’s unique technology.

PROFIBUS is registered trademark of PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation e.V., Karlsruhe, Germany.

3.4 Wiring System Configuration

The number of devices that can be connected to a single bus and the cable length vary depending on system design.
When constructing systems, both the basic and overall design must be carefully considered to allow device performance
to be fully exhibited.

4. GETTING STARTED
PROFIBUS DP is fully dependent upon digital communication protocol and differs in operation from conventional 4 to
20 mA transmission and the BRAIN communication protocol. It is recommended that novice users use PROFIBUS DP
devices in accordance with the procedures described in this section. The procedures assume that fieldbus devices will
be set up on a bench of an instrument shop.

4.1 Connection of Devices

The following instruments are required for use with PROFIBUS DP devices:

• Terminator:
PROFIBUS DP requires two terminators at the end of the segment.
Built-in terminator
ADMAG AXFA11 builds in the terminator for PROFIBUS communication. In order to confirm a built-in
terminator, SW2 slide switch is turned ON like the above-mentioned figure 5.1.

The power supply for external terminators is provided. Terminal names are 5V and DGND. Since 10mA
is rating, please do not use current capacity other than the object for external terminators.

• Master:
Used for accessing field devices. A dedicated master (such as DCS or PLC) is used for an instrumentation line while
dedicated communication tools are used for experimental purposes. For operation of the master, refer to the
instruction manual for each master. No details of the master are explained in the rest of this material.
• Cable:
EN 50 170 specifies two types of bus cable. For transmission rates up to 1.5 Mbit/s, cable type A is recommended.
For ADMAG AXFA11, use an M4 screw terminal. Some hosts require a connector.

Connect the devices as shown in Figure 4.2. Connect the terminators at both ends of the trunk, with a minimum length
of the spur laid for connection.
The polarity of signal must be maintained.

4.2 Master Setting
To activate PROFIBUS DP, the following bus parameters settings are required for the master.

IMPORTANT
Do not turn the power OFF immediately after parameter setting. When the parameters are saved to the
EEPROM, the redundant processing is executed for the improvement of reliability. If the power is turned
OFF within 60 seconds after setting of parameters, changed parameters are not saved and may return to
their original values.
When the consecutive parameter setting to the multiple parameters is not executed via the acyclic data
exchange, the time inverval between each parameter setting must not be within 2 seconds.
Changed parameters may not be written to the device.

4.3 Bus and ADMAG AXFA11 Power ON
Turn on the power of the host, and ADMAG AXFA11.
Using the host device display function, check that the ADMAG AXFA11 is in operation on the bus. Unless otherwise
specified, the following settings are in effect when shipped from the factory.
bus address: 126 (hexadecimal 7E)

If no ADMAG AXFA11 is detected, check the available address range. If the bus address is not specified when
ordering, default value is factory set. If two or more ADMAG AXFA11s are connected at a time with default value,
only one ADMAG AXFA11 might be detected from master as ADMAG AXFA11s have the same initial address.
Separately connect each ADMAG AXFA11 and set a different address for each.

Address setting switch

A setup of bus address is possible by the change with a parameter, or the hardware slide switch.
In case of setting up with a parameter, the No. 8 switch of SW3 (below figure) is turned OFF first.
It sets up in SET_ADDRESS (Physical Block). Setting ranges are 0-126. In order to set up the
bus address by the hardware slide switches, the No. 8 switch of SW3 (below figure) is turned ON
first. Other seven switches of No.1 to No.7 on the SW3 are for setting address. No.1 switch of
SW3 is allocated for bit0 of address, and No.7 switch of SW3 is allocated for bit6 of address. The
below figure shows an example that the address setting of the hardware slide switch is effective,
and the address number sets 3.

4.4 Setting of Write Protect Switch
A write protection is a function to forbid changing of parameters. It is possible to set the software write protection by
parameter setup or the hardware write protection by the hardware slide switch. In case of the setting up by parameters, it
can set up in WRITE_LOCKING. When WRITE_LOCKING is “0: Lock”, the status of write protect becomes protected
mode. And when WRITE_LOCKING is “2457: Disabled”, the status becomes disable mode.
In case of the setting up by hardware switch, it can set up in No.1 switch of SW1. When the switch is turned on, the
status becomes protected mode, and when the switch is turned off, the status becomes disable mode. The state of the
hardware write-protection switch can be checked with the parameter "HW_WRITE_PROTECTION." As the
mentioned above, write protection is available by the setting either of software protection or hardware protection, one of
them is set to protect mode, the status becomes protected mode.

5. BLOCK Setting
This chapter contains information on how to adapt the function and performance of the ADMAG AXFA11 to suit
specific applications. Because two or more devices are connected to PROFIBUS DP, settings including the
requirements of all devices need to be determined. Practically, the following steps must be taken.
The following section describes each step of the procedure in the order given. Using a dedicated configuration tool
allows the procedure to be significantly simplified. This section describes the procedure to be assigned for a master
which has relatively simple functions.

5.1 AI Function Block Parameters

AI Function block parameters can be read or set from the host. For a list of the parameters of blocks held by the
ADMAG AXFA11, refer to "List of parameters for each block of the ADMAG AXFA11" in Appendix 1. The
following is a list of important parameters with a guide how to set them.
TARGET_MODE, MODE_BLK:
Indicates the three types of function block modes; Out_Of_Service, Manual, and Auto. TARGET_MODE indicates
what mode of operation is desired for AI Function block. In Out_Of_Service mode, the AI block does not operate.
The Manual mode does not allow values to be updated. The Auto mode causes the measured value to be updated.
Under normal circumstances, set the Auto mode to take effect. The Auto mode is the factory default.
CHANNEL:
This is the parameter of the transducer block to be input to the AI block. AI block is assigned flow rate.
OUT:
This parameter contains the current measurement value from Transducer Block or configuration adjusted engineering
unit and the belonging state in AUTO MODE. OUT contains the value and status set by an operator in MAN MODE.

PV_SCALE:
Scale of input from the transducer block. The engineering unit of PV_SCALE high and low scale values are direct
related to the VOLUME_FLOW_UNIT of the Transducer block. Changing the unit (can be set only in flow rate)
also causes the unit within the transducer block to be automatically changed. (The unit is automatically changed
according to the unit selected by AI.)
OUT_SCALE:
Sets the range of output (from 0% to 100%). Available units for OUT_SCALE are the after-mentioned units for
VOLUME_FLOW_UNIT and the units shown below.

6. IN-PROCESS OPERATION
This chapter describes the procedure performed when changing the operation of the function block of the ADMAG
AXFA11 in process.

6.1 Mode Transition

When the function block mode is changed to Out_Of_Service, the function block pauses and a block alarm is issued.

When the function block mode is changed to Manual, the function block suspends updating of output values. In this
case alone, it is possible to write a value to the OUT parameter of the block for output. Note that no parameter status
can be changed.

6.2 Generation of Alarm

6.2.1 Indication of Alarm
When the self-diagnostics function indicates that a device is faulty, a diagnostic message (DIAGNOSIS or
DIAGNOSIS_EXTENSION) is issued from the physical block. When a diagnostic message is detected in each function
block or an diagnostic message in the process value (process alarm) is detected, a diagnostic message is issued from
each block. If two or more alarms are issued, multiple error messages are displayed in 4-second intervals. (when "1" is
set to DISPLAY_CYCLE).
When an alarm has been occurred, the corresponding alarm name, description, and suitable countermeasure will be
displayed on the display unit. The normal Display Mode and Alarm Mode may be displayed alternatively. When a
warning has been issued, the corresponding content will be shown in the third line in the Display Mode.

6.3 Simulation Function

The simulation function simulates the input of a function block and let it operate as if the data was received from the
transducer block.
A SIMULATE_ENABLE slide switch is mounted in the ADMAG AXFA11 amplifier. This is to prevent the accidental
operation of this function. When switch is turned on, simulation is enabled. (See Figure 6.2.)

this reason the simulation must be disabled immediately after using this function.
The SIMULATE parameter of AI block consists of the elements listed in Table 6.3 below.
Table 6.2 SIMULATE Parameter

Sub- index Parameters Description

1 Simulate Status Sets the data status to be simulated.
2 Simulate Value Sets the value of the data to be simulated.
Controls the simulation function of this block.
3 Simulate_Enabled 0: Disabled (standard)
1: Enabled(simulation)

When Simulate_Enabled in Table 6.3 above is set to "Enabled", the applicable function block uses the simulation value
set in this parameter instead of the data from the transducer block. This setting can be used for propagation of the status
to the trailing blocks, generation of a process alarm, and as an operation test for trailing blocks.

AND CHANGE OF BASIC PARAMETERS
A2.1 Applications and Selection of Basic Parameters

Setting Item (applicable parameters) Summary

Sets Tag_DESC and each block tag.
Tag No. Up to 32 alphanumeric characters can be set for both tags.
Refer to “Tag and address” in Section 5.
Sets the range of input from the transducer block corresponding to the 0% and 100%
points in operation within the AI1 function block. The calibrated range (0% and 100%) is
Calibration range setup
the factory default setting.
(PV_SCALE)
Sets the range unit, input value of the 0% point (in case of ADMAG AXFA11, 0), input
value of the 100% point (correspond to flow rate span).
Sets the scale of output corresponding to the 0% and 100% points in operation within the
AI function block. It is possible to set a unit and scale that differs from the measurement
Output scale setup
range.
(OUT_SCALE)
Sets the range unit, input value of the 0% point (lower bound of output scale), input value
of the 100% point (upper bound of output scale), and the 4 data at the decimal point.
Performs simulation of the AI function block.
Simulation setup The input value and status for the calibration range can also be set.
(SIMULATE) It is recommended that this parameter be used for loop checks and other purposes. Refer
to “Simulation Function” in Section 6.3.
Sets the time constant of damping function in seconds.
Damping time constant setup The setting of VOLUME_FLOW_FTIME affects not only flow rate but internal totalization.
(VOLUME_FLOW_FTIME) PV_FTIME of Al function block is a parameter for damping the value of Al OUT. It is
recommended to use PRIMARY_VALUE_FTIME for flowmeter's damping function.
Sets the low cut value which corresponds to the percent against the large absolute value of
PV_SCALE. The hysteresis is 0.5% when the low cut functions and also is released.
LOW_CUT of Al function block is a parameter for low cut of Al OUT. It has 1% hysteresis
Output signal low cut mode setup
when the low cut is released. Do not make LOW_CUT functioned when flow measuring in
(LOW_FLOW_LOWCUT)
reverse direction, or the output is zero at any flow rate because the flow rate is always
regarded as under zero. It is recommended to use LOW_FLOW_CUTOFF for
flowmeter's low cut function.
LCD display setup Sets the unit to be displayed on the LCD and the display speed.
(DISPLAY_SELECT1-3, Adjust display speed if a low temperature environment causes a poor LCD display quality.
DISPLAY_CYCLE)
Performs zero-point adjustment.
Zero-point adjustment
Zero-point adjustment should be done only when the fluid is filled in the flow tube and the
(ZERO_POINT, ZERO_POINT_ADJUST)
fluid velocity is completely zero.

A2.2 Setting and Change of Basic Parameters
This section describes the procedure taken to set and change the parameters for each block. Obtaining access to each
parameter differs depending on the configuration system used. For details, refer to the instruction manual for each
configuration system.

Access the block mode (TARGET_MODE) of each block.

(*Note 1) (*Note 2)
Set the TARGET_MODE to Auto, Man or O/S according to
the Write Mode of the parameter to be set or changed.

Access the parameter to be set or changed.

Make setting or change in accordance with each parameter.

(*Note 2)
Set the Target of block mode (TARGET_MODE) back to Auto .

Note 1: Block mode consists of the following four modes that are controlled by the universal parameter that displays the running condition of each
block.
TARGET_MODE: Sets the operating condition of the block.
Actual: Indicates the current operating condition.
Permit: Indicates the operating condition that the block is allowed to take.
Normal: Indicates the operating condition that the block will usually take.
Note 2: The followings are the operating conditions which the individual blocks will take.
