The first music I want to talk about is the music by “Mingo Saldivar”, his style and music

performance greatly appeal to me for its connections between different genres of music. The
accordions played and other accompaniment suggests its root music distinctiveness, what I find so
intriguing is that he can merge the style of country music, conjunto style, blues, and a bit of the
jazz music all into one performance. This indicates his incredible sensibility of music and his
skills of fusing music styles together without sounding bizarre or strange, rather, he preserved the
unique traits of conjunto music while making it rock and roll at the same time, which is really
impressive to me.

Another aspect I want to talk about is the deeper connotation in the lyrics of the Tejano music, one
song that impressed me greatly is the “En Vivo” by Flaco Jimenez. Apart from the standard
components of Tejano band, the singing style of the song is the typical duo singing style, where
the parallel harmony supplement each other, representing the struggles and hardship in romantic
situations, which both has the triumph in Tejano music but also the slight sadness in lyrics, making
great contrast in meaning and representation.
