How will you explain the society and culture of the indigenous group?

Australians are multicultural. 42,000 years ago, the indigenous group called the “Aboriginals”, the
“Mungo” or the first Australians, inhabited Australia. Lake Mungo became the home of rich complex
culture. The Mungos wore white paint of lines and shapes as a way to decorate their body as part of
their rituals. They wore no clothes at all until it evolved into minimal clothing. They also carried long
sticks but without sharp edges. They sustained their living by fishing in the said lake, drying their catch
they cook by using stone tools and shells. They bathe with just scrubbing stones against their skins. Their
shelter was made up of woven dry leaves slightly strengthen by pieces of wood.

Earlier, paleontologists also found a trace of them in Arnhem Land. They lived under stone roofs (similar
of that of a cave but more open) in which you have to chant a ritual before entering the place. This
practice is still done as of today. Australian Aboriginal art has a history spanning thousands of years.
Aboriginal artists continue these traditions using both modern and traditional materials in their
artworks. Aboriginal art is the most internationally recognizable form of Australian art. Arnhem Land’s
stone roofs are filled with complex arts and drawings which paved the way for paleontologists to know
what species of animals existed back then. They have knowledge from rock to modern watercolor
paintings. However, the indigenous group didn’t form a system of writing. The Arnhem Land people
traditionally plays a wind instrument they called “didgeridoo”.

Included in their culture is the ceremonial burial of a clan chief. If a clan chief dies, a tribe member will
dance and chant. Likewise, a smoking ceremony is a cleansing ritual performed on special occasions like
this. Moreover, if a Munggo lady dies, they are burned until they see the bones and then their bones are
broken into tiny pieces. Their belief system includes that death is a transition to another life that is not
completely different from the one they have left when they died.
