SUMMARY
Datiz is the son of a fisherman, he lives on the island of Mantanani. Datiz loves the
sea. People on that island consider March to be a special date because whale
sharks pass Mantanani as they migrate, Datiz has a whale shark friend named
splash. In March when the two friends meet something terrible happens, a
fisherman is fishing with bombs. Datiz cannot allow this, because this destroys the
coral reefs and the food of the whale sharks and if that situation happens the whale
sharks cannot return to the island. But Datiz sees that people do not care how they
are caught, they only care about high production, Datiz goes to another island
where he sees that coral reefs are destroyed because fishermen previously fished
with bombs and he realizes that without coral reefs , there is no food for the fish,
and the fish have nowhere to live for that reason on that island there are no more
fish. Datiz takes a photo of the dead coral reef. She researches and collects
information about coral reefs, and the next day she promotes sustainable fishing
with everyone on the island, soon the people of the island find out the information
and decide to take care of the coral reefs. March of the following year arrives and
they see the whale shark again, an island where the reefs had been destroyed is
improving. 50 years later, the coral reefs are still intact thanks to the care of the
community. Datiz and Splash tell the story to new generations.
