Branched fatty acids are interesting base fluids for lubricants because
of their extraordinary physical features. For example, the pour point of
fatty acids and their derivatives is significantly lowered by branching.
By adding sterically hindered branches, hydrolytic stability can also
be increased. Their low pour point, low viscosity, high chemical stability
and high flashpoint make saturated, branched fatty acids highly desirable
base fluids in the lubricants industry and to the cosmetic, plastifier,
plastics, defoamer industry.
