d. Special Needs/Accommodations: N/A
e. Specific Entry Skills: Lexile of at least 760, know the vocabulary “dystopian” and “utopian”

e. Motivation – Keller’s ARCS Model (Describe how you will integrate each component into
your book trailer to get your audience’s attention.

Attention – Make connections to their own everyday life, ask questions like
● “What would life be like if you could not make your own decisions or form
your own opinions?”
● “Would you prefer to live in a world where everyone is equal or one where
you can make a name for yourself ?”

Relevance – Describe what a “perfect world” is. Jonas, a major character, is similar in age to
the readers, so he is experiencing a lot of the same emotions and thoughts the readers will.

Confidence – The Giver is a short novel. Each chapter leaves you in suspense to find out how
Jonas will change the future in his community.

Satisfaction – Readers will gain an appreciation for the choices and freedoms that we have
in our society.
