I am here by writing to get admission in the course 'MA in Architectural History and Theory'

while all my other peers are opting for courses like Urban design, interiors and hardcore architecture.
Many people did question my choice but as Ralph Waldo Emerson quoted, "Whatever course you decide
upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that
tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires
some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and
women to win them. "

Books and literature have fascinated me since my childhood days and when I opted for Critical
Appreciation as my elective in the 6th semester, I came across Architectural Journalism as a profession.
As soon as I heard about it, I knew this is something I want to pursue. I had been in contact with one of
the best architectural journalists in India Ar. Apurva Bose and she recommended this course to me as
the only course in India that is related to this field therefore I am really ambitious for getting in.

I feel Architectural Journalism in India is still an unexplored niche. With our country full of rich marvels,
urban heritage and vast history, the scope for writing is boundless. Research and analysis in India will
help us dig the close-knit relationship between our culture and architecture. The evolution of vernacular
architecture in different regions of the country, keeping in mind all aspects that would make their living
comfortable is something that even today's architects have a hard time in achieving. For this, extensive
research and critical studies are very crucial. Architecture does not stop at constructing a building, but
goes way beyond. Learning from old techniques, disposing the mistakes, exploring new ideas and
technology will only make our structures and spaces healthier.

But only research won't do any good if it is not put into words or materials to be made available for the
end user. Words give us the power to put forth our thoughts and opinions for the world to read, analyze
and adopt. This course is a perfect fit for me and I could not find any course in other colleges remotely
related to it.

In conclusion, I must say that I would regard my admission to the CEPT not only as a great honor and
success but also as an obligation for hard work. I deeply believe that the excellence of your program,
along with my capabilities and motivation, will help me to attain my destination.

Concluding with a quote I strongly believe in,

“The discipline of writing something down could be the first step towards making it happen. Writing is
all about expression...about letting one's own opinions reach everyone else.” Lee Iacocca.
