Reading and Writing - Part 5
Look at the picture and read the story. Write some words to complete
the sentences about the story. You can use 1, 2, 3, or 4 words.

The Contest
My name’s Jane, and I live in a big city with my brother and
my parents. My brother’s name is John. Our city is very near a
beautiful forest that has enormous trees.

Last Monday, my friend Sara visited us and we went hiking there.

When we were in the forest, we saw some squirrels. John said,
“Look, I can run faster than the squirrels!” Sara said, “So can I!”

Then John said, “Let’s see who can run across the bridge the
fastest! Let’s have a race!” John likes to have competitions, and so
does Sara, but I don’t because I always lose. As always, I was last so
I felt really disappointed.

Sara said, “OK. Let’s have one more competition. Let’s see who can
climb that tall tree. Jane, you go first.” I started climbing, then Sara,
and finally John. I was last, and Sara first.

Sara shouted, “I am the best climber in the whole world! I am the

best!” But when she was shouting, a squirrel climbed up the tree
so fast that we lost sight of it. We started laughing and I said, “No,
Sara, that squirrel is the best!”
