Simplified Mining Sequence Example

A mining sequence can easily be modeled in RS3. This example illustrates a few simple
drift mining stages. The model is easily set up:

1. Set up an external boundary. (17097,10433); (17097,8433); (19297, 8433); (19297,

10433).
2. Set up a model with 5 slices. (Slice 1 is on top)
3. Import the .dxf for the top drift into Slice 2. Import Excavations and Materials.
4. Import the .dxf for the stopes into Slice 3.
5. Import the .dxf for the bottom drift into Slice 4.
6. Assign materials.
7. Use Stages to set up the excavation sequence.

The following sequence is shown in the figures below:

Stage 1: Initial conditions, nothing excavated

Stage 2: Top and bottom drifts are excavated
Stage 3: First stope is excavated
Stage 4: First stope is backfilled, second stope is excavated
Stage 5: Second stope is backfilled
Stage 6: Third stope is excavated
Stage 7: Third stope is backfilled, fourth stope is excavated.

Stage 1: Initial conditions, no excavations (shown are areas to be excavated; ore is shown in red)
Stage 2: Top and bottom drifts excavated

Stage 3: First stope is excavated

Stage 4: Second stope is excavated, first stope is backfilled (blue)

Stage 5: Second stope is backfilled

Stage 6: Third stope is excavated

Stage 7: Fourth stope is excavated, third is backfilled
