INTRODUCTION

- He developed a new refrigerant gas known as chlorofluorocarbon or CFC because it has

chlorine, fluorine and carbon
- CFCs are not flammable or toxic
- These substances are used as refrigerants, foams, aerosols and solvents
- There are diffrerent types of CFC.
Abbreviatio Formula Name
n
CFC-11 CCl3F Trichlorofluoromethane
CFC-12 CCl2F2 dichlorodifluoromethane
CFC-113 CCl2F-CClF2 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane
- CFC emissions damage the ozone layer

METHODOLOGY
- In this study was chosen two places to sampling
- The Place A is in Barra do Mazanguape ubicate in the northeasth to brasil
- The Place B is in Sao Paulo ubicate in the southeast to brasil
- In this study was choosen two places because they wanted to compare the concentration of
CFC in the two places because the place A is near the Atlantic Ocean and the sampled air
doesn’t have direct contact with anthropogenic sources
- In this map you can see sau Paulo Metropolitan Area whit six sampling sites
- Air Samples were taken once a month from April to October
- Air samples were taken in steel containers and CFC concentrations were determined using a
gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector (ECD).
RESULTS
- In this figure we can see the concentration of CFC 11. The horizontal line represents the
concentration in Barra do Mazanguape and the bars represent the concentration in the six
sampling sites in Sao Paulo.
- The result shows that CFC 11 concentrations are small and there aren´t significant
differences in the sampling sites.
- In this figure you can see that the concentration of CFC-12 in the six points is higher than
the concentration of Mazaranguape. This could be associated with the use of this gas in old
refrigeration systems.
- This study is important because it contributes to the monitoring of the concentration of
these gases in large cities such as Sao Paulo
