Let’s do sport!

We use the verbs play, do and go with sports and activities.

Play
Play is used with ball sports and competitive games.
'How often do you play tennis?' - tennis is a ball sport.
‘I usually play poker with my friends on Friday night.' - poker is a competitive game. We play to win.
My brother often plays computer games.' - again, computer games are competitive so we
use play.

Do is used for a recreational activity or a non-team sport, no ball:
He often does karate.' - karate is a non-team activity.
‘I almost always do crossword puzzles in my free time.' - crossword puzzles are not

Se utiliza “do”, en general, para las actividades recreativas, es decir, que no boxing
implican competición en grupo. También coincide con prácticas deportivas
que no requieren un balón, pelota u otros elementos para su realización.
Go
Go is used with activities that end -ing. We go somewhere to do something:
‘I never go fishing on Sunday.’
‘Does John go dancing in the morning?’
‘Sam and his cousin go swimming weekly.'

Connectors of sequence:
We use the connectors of sequence
to order events.
The correct order is: First…,next…,then…,
after that…finally.
For example:
• First, I wake up at 7am next, I take a
shower and get dressed then, I have
breakfast also I talk a few minutes with
my wife after that, I go to work but before
that I brush my teeth and say good bye to
my family. Finally I get in my car and drive
to work.
