Introduction
The mystery of God’s ways is
sometimes hidden from the wise and
intelligent. Jesus associates with
those often excluded from the
religious community. Like Paul, we
struggle with our own selfish desires
and seek God’s mercy and
forgiveness. We gather to be
refreshed by Christ’s invitation:
“Come to me, all you that are
weary.” Gathered around word,
water, and meal, we find rest for our
souls.
Gospel:
Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
Psalm: Psalm 145:8-14

Introduction
God’s word is like the rain that
waters the earth and brings forth
vegetation. It is also like the sower
who scatters seed indiscriminately.
Our lives are like seeds sown in the
earth. Even from what appears to be
little, dormant, or dead, God
promises a harvest. At the Lord’s
table we are fed with the bread of
life, that we may bear fruit in the
world.
Gospel: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

Independence Day
Prayer
Dear Lord,
There is no greater feeling of
liberty than to experience
freedom from sin and death
that you provided for me
through Jesus Christ. Today
my heart and my soul are
free to praise you. For this, I
am very thankful.
On this Independence Day, I
am reminded of all those
who have sacrificed for my
freedom, following the
example of your Son, Jesus
Christ. Let me not take my
freedom, both physical and
spiritual, for granted. May I
always remember that a very
high price was paid for my
freedom. My freedom cost
others their very lives.
Lord, today, bless those who
have served and continue to
give their lives for my
freedom. With favor and
bounty, meet their needs and
watch over their families.
Phil Sandall shares plan to begin services July 12th
Dear Fellow Members:
A few months ago I wrote a letter to you regarding the
spirituality I found in on-line worship, and for a while it was
very fulfilling. But recently I’ve been wondering, “Where did
everybody go?” Obviously there are some limitations with
on-line worship. We really can’t fully experience God’s
spirituality unless we share it together. For those who are able
the Worship and Music Ministry Team, having met with
Pastor Hill, are excited to share that worship and communion
services will begin on July 12th at the front of the church. This
will provide individuals the opportunity to stay in their car or
bring a chair and sit on the sidewalk or lawn in front. The
service will be led by Pastor Hill on the stairs at the front of
the church.
All members will be expected to wear a facemask and bring
their own hand sanitizers. Social distancing will be practiced
with chairs six feet from one another. You are asked to park in
the parking lot if you plan to bring your chair. Parking directly
in front of the church should be left for those needing to
remain in their cars. Communion will be served to you at your
chair, or in your car, using disposable individually wrapped
communion cups and wafers.
Many churches have implemented outdoor worship, including
Emanuel Lutheran Church in Modesto, and those attending
have found it to be a very meaningful way to worship. You
can expect some differences in the service, as we address
many regulations, but the important thing is we will be
together for worship. We ask those attending to be patient as
we are new to outdoor services and it may take a while to
work the bugs out.
In-person worship will begin once it is safer to be inside, but
we share the thoughts of Bishop Mark, that this may not be
until late September.
Come worship and rejoice being together beginning July 12th.

during the COVID-19 Shelter in place.

Hi all,
This is my prayer “jar.” I
decided to do this because at
times there are so many to pray
for that I forget a few names. So
now I just put each name on a
rose quartz crystal, light my
candle and ask God for healing
for all the names listed in my
“jar.’ I know there are many
creative people in this church.
I’d like to see what you can do
with a prayer jar.
If travel is permissible,
Many blessings to you all
we will be headed to
our daughter’s cabin at Kristin
Lake Almanor. I’m
undefeated in the three
Corn Hole
tournaments! Fishing
and golf!

We are doing great, we miss all
of you so much, hope everyone
is ok due to this virus. No one
we know has got it or had it so
we are good. Spending time at
the lake still, working at Home
Depot and Doug's still retired.

Favorite 4th of July, Traditions & Fails!

My 4th of July’s
My ‘Favorite 4th of July, Traditions & Fails’
are all sort of tied together.
Undoubtedly, my favorite 4th of July was in
1995 when my daughter Alexandra was born!
She was born at 11:48pm. When the Dr.
arrived probably around 11:20pm-ish, he told
the nurse in charge that if he “had to leave 4th
of July fireworks with his family & kids, that
this baby would be born on July 4th!” The nurse
said it was the quickest birth she ever seen!
After Alex was born, our 4th of July always
revolves around her birthday celebration, lots
of family, lots of food, and lots of “Safe &
Sane” fireworks. My biggest July 4th “Fail” is
my determination every year to have sparklers
on the birthday cake that would NOT either
ruin the cake with ash, set the cake on fire or
set off the fire alarm. I still have not achieved
this and have been asked by my family to
please not try this anymore. ☹
