Check Your Essay

You should be writing your advanced argument essay now. Take your time and do a good
job. Before you submit your essay for peer review, take some time to revise and edit it.

 Did you write about a controversial and academic topic?

 Did you use a couple of Internet sources to help support your ideas?
 Did you cite your sources by putting the author's last name at the end of the sentence?
 Did you use more than 3 body paragraphs?

If you did all of those things, then check your essay for these other things you've learned about
good writing:

 use a thesis statement with a topic and controlling idea

 use topic sentences to start each body paragraph
 use correct verb tenses
 give unity to paragraphs and the essay--all sentences in paragraphs relate to topic
sentence and all paragraphs relate to thesis
 give coherence to the paragraphs and essay--use transitions and keywords
 use commas correctly
 use good sentence variety
 use parallel structure
