Dear Sir, We refer to your submittal of Concrete Mix Design of C40/45 to be utilized for tunnel lining works. We have reviewed the submitted mix design and our Comments are as under: 1) The fine aggregates used from Barista stone Crusher at trial found more than 2%, which is exceeded the specified limits refer RFI no-DBL/RSHPL/QC/143 ,dated 02.05.2020 (Maximum water absorption can also. be certified from MORT& H Specification Section 600 and Quality assurance plan submitted by Concessionaire. 2) Concessionaire be informed that the Final lining designed of thickness maximum upto 550 mm and without reinforcement. Therefore, we cannot afford inferior quality of aggregates. Moreover, this tunnel is designed for 100 years and in underground excavation there is problem of water seepage and high water absorption of aggregates will affect its durability. 3) It is suggested to use at least fine aggregates with crushed sand from other source having water absorption within the limit of 2%.This can be blended with the existing Barista DBL crusher aggregates. 4) Apart from Concrete cube strength and Concrete cylinder strength as per the design, Modulus of elasticity E-MIN 35000MPA, characteristics axil tensile strength fetk-min 2.5MPA and Characteristics Cylindrical strength of 40 MPA, should also be tested for Concrete lining works. In view of above Comments, we cannot accord Concurrence to the submitted Concrete mix design of 40/45 (tunnel Liningland therefore, Concessionaire is requested to revise the design Mix using other source of fine Aggregates and sand whose water absorption be in the Consistently in the limit. of max.2% for our review and Concurrence.
