Future of Democracy in Pakistan​:

Introduction
Future of democracy is promising in Pakistan. Democracy is a process as well as
a culture but both are in their nascent stage in Pakistan. Democracy in Pakistan
has shown great resilience. Though it has been periodically interrupted by
military take overs but each time it resurges with a greater force.
Thesis Statement
Although critics believed that the future of democracy in Pakistan is not secure
owing to it has shown great resilience of political Institutions,military intervention
has been remained daily practice, political leaders have not been able to adapted
political behavior and norms but argues suggest that with the successful
transformation of government after its completion, growing authority of elections
commission, flourishing political awareness, and due to vibrant media, the future
of democracy is illuminating in Pakistan.

What are the Extents/indications showing that the future of


democracy in Pakistan is bright:

● Successful transfer of power from one democratic government to


another after completion of its tenure is a good omen for democracy
in Pakistan.
● Judiciary has repeatedly asserted that they will be no longer support
for any military takeover.
● Baloch nationalists actively participated in the Election 2013.
● The 18th Amendment opened the door for the devolution of power to
the provinces which is key for democratic process.
● During the past few years, political parties have refrained from
strengthening any anti-democratic trends.
● The News Media is more independent.
● Civil society is Active.
● Least interest of army in political intervention at least directly.
● Holding of Free and Fair Elections.
What are the Challenges/Threats to thriving Democracy in Pakistan:

● Weak and poverty stricken society.
● Illiterate masses.
● Social Injustice prevails.
● Our legislators are not he true representative of people.
● Diminishing middle class.
● Maltreatment of women
● Confrontation between the state organs.
● Distrust between centre and provinces.
● Strong bureaucracy and Feudal system.
● Political disharmony between political parties.
● Rampant corruption.
● Absence of true accountability
● Poor governance.
● Negative Role of Media.
● Economic Instability.
● Extremism and terrorism.
● Foreign Intervention.

What should be done to make democracy successful in Pakistan :


Roadmap to address issues in the way of flourishing democracy in
Pakistan :

● Educational reforms should be introduced.
● Economic stability is necessary for democracy.
● Industrialization should be promoted as it creates middle class.
● Political awareness must be promoted.
● Sovereignty of parliament must be ensured
● Judiciary should be made independent.
● Minimizing role of feudal lords and bureaucrats.
● Dire need of mature leadership.
● Youth must be encouraged to participate in politics.
● Effective system of accountability
● Media personal should be trained to educate masses.
