A. Copy a PFD to a Word document.

After you complete your work on a HYSYS assignment, you may want to paste the
contents of the PFD into a page of a Word document that you are preparing for your
formal solution to an assignment. Proceed as follows to capture the current PFD, paste it
as a picture into a Word document, and then format this picture:

1. Click the Zoom to Fit button in the bottom To place the entire flowsheet, its documentation
right corner of the HYSYS desktop. text, and its stream table in the PFD window.

Click the Percent Zoom value in the bottom To provide some spacing above the top title line
right portion of the HYSYS desktop and reset and below the bottom of the stream table. About a
the percentage value of the zoom. quarter inch at the top and bottom is adequate.

Click the <PrtSc> button; that is, the Print To capture the complete contents of the Aspen

HYSYS flowsheet window and copy this captured
image into the Windows clipboard.

Note that  While leaving the HYSYS program open, you will
now paste the captured picture image and
manipulate it using the Microsoft Word program.

Press keys <Ctrl><Shift><*> on the keyboard. To show the paragraph markers.

Press the <Enter> key on the keyboard twice. To add two more lines to the new document.

Place the cursor in the second line. To identify the insertion point for the picture.

Press keys <Ctrl><E> on the keyboard. To center the insertion point for the picture.

Press keys <Ctrl><V> on the keyboard. To insert the picture from the Windows clipboard
into the Word document.

Note that  You will next do some simple formatting of this

E-Z Solve Software Workaround using the Excel “EZ Setup” Macro Add-In

The E-Z Solve software that was bundled with the Third Edition of the Felder and Rousseau
textbook “Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes” (2005, ISBN 978-0-471-68757-3) is no longer
operable in later versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system (Version 7 or later). Michael
Hanyak has authored a Microsoft Excel macro called “EZ Setup” to replace the partial functionality of
the E-Z Solve software. The “EZ Setup” macro parse a text description of a mathematical model or a
mathematical algorithm and generates in an Excel worksheet the Excel Solver formulation to minimize
the sum of squares. Using the Excel Solve utility, a user can obtain a solution to the unknown variables
in a set of algebraic equations.

The numerical solution to the batch problem presented in Appendix A uses the “EZ Setup”
macro. Click here to learn how to download and install the Excel “EZ Setup” macro Add-In on your
Windows-based computer. For the steam solution to the batch problem, Functions “energyW” and “densW”
are used to determine the specific internal energy and mass density for pure steam, respectively. These
two functions are part of a suite of functions for obtaining the thermodynamic and transport properties of
water and steam, based on the industrial standard IAPWS-IF97. This suite is available as an Excel Add-
In authored by Bernhard Spang, Hamburg, Germany (b.spang@hamburg.de). Click here to download and
install this Add-In, before trying to solve the problem in Appendix A.

If you already have a favorite “steam” Excel Add-In for its thermodynamic properties (like the
Excel APEx Add-In bundled with Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes, 4th Edition, by Felder, Rousseau,
and Bullard, 2016), then you do not need to obtain Spang’s Excel Add-In. In any “EZ Setup”
mathematical model or algorithm, change Spang’s function calls for “energyW” and “densW” to meet the
requirements for your favorite “steam” Add-In. After making those changes, you will have to re-
formulate that mathematical model or algorithm by clicking the “EZ Setup” button in Cell J2 of the
Excel worksheet.

Pages A-4 to A-6 in the electronic version of the HYSYS v8.3 manual have been updated to
reflect the use of the “EZ Setup” macro. Your paperback version of Pages A-4 to A-6 still reference the
unsupported E-Z Solve software. Please use the electronic version of these three pages, instead of their
paperback version.

HYSYS 8.4 Fixes detected by Michael Hanyak (hanyak@bucknell.edu) on Dec. 8, 2014.

Fixes are indicated by blue rectangles to make the HYSYS v8.3 manual compatible with HYSYS v8.4.

Throughout the HYSYS v8.3 manual, the term “v8.3” is to be read as “v8.4”.

When the HYSYS v8.4 desktop opens, only one tabbed window named “Start Using Aspen HYSYS”
will appear in the workspace panel. In HYSYS 8.3, two tabbed windows use to appear.

Throughout the Aspen HYSYS v8.3 manual, the phrase “the Start Page window” means
“the Start Using Aspen HYSYS window” in the HYSYS Version 8.4 software.
