Italy is one of the epicentre countries in Europe that deals with the pandemic with 29.

deaths until now, strict lockdown regulation, and taking too late to act. Massimo Galli from
Milan hospital quoted, “There’s the first phase in which you elbow it away, saying, ‘Our neighbor
has it, ah, scary, but he’s got it’. Then, there’s the phase in which you realize it’s arrived at your
house and you deny it. No, it’s impossible!”
Living as a student in Northern Italy city, Piacenza since one and a half years ago seems peaceful
& exciting, while the metropolitan city of Milan is only 1-hour by train. Lockdown Decree for the
whole country since 11 March 2020, made Piacenza getting more deserted or ‘dying’. No more
fun, no bars, no friends meet up, no outdoor park, only pharmacy & market opens, citizens
should bring the letter of permission (autocertificazione) to go out from home, otherwise police
can address crime charges. My last semester period while taking the Master study of Sustainable
Architecture and Landscape Design course in Politecnico di Milano campus starts to be an
online study. But okay, we can adapt! Andra tutto bene!
Monday, 4th May 2020 is the 2nd stage of lockdown in Italy. The rules are less restricted, seeing
people outside and walking is my new mood booster, even the limit is only 100 meter maximum
from each living house. The public park opens again with social distancing and masks, while
sport activity is now allowed without autocertificazione. Delivery services are enabled, so we
can enjoy pizza again. Finally, there is new hope, this is a moment to reflect, what we humans
did to nature, plants, and animals. We should find the new equilibrium of living together in an
ecosystem wisely while surviving with the virus until an unknown time.
