Name REYES, Ivan Ross M. Section B14 Date APRIL 1, 2020

From your textbook (page 269-270), answer Exer 1.1

COPY AND ANS.

1. Evaluate the following modular operations:

a. (47 + 26) mod 15

47 + 26 = 73. If you divide 73 by 15, you will obtain a quotient of 4 and a remainder of 13. This can be
written as 73/15 = 4 + 13/15 or in standard form 33 = 4(15) + 13, which means the remainder is 13.
Thus (47 + 26) mod 15 ⩭ 13.

c. (13)(32) mod 14

(13)(32) = 416. If you divide 416 by 14, you will obtain a quotient of 29 and a remainder of 10. This can
be written as 416/14 = 29 + 10/14 or in standard form 416 = 29(14) + 10, which means the remainder
is 10. Thus (13)(32) mod ⩭ 10.

2. Determine the value of the following

c. Multiplicative inverse of 6 mod 15

The multiplicative inverse of 6 mod 15 does not exist.

3. In a 12-hour clock, determine the time

a. 55 hours after 7 o’clock

55 + 7 = 62 ⩭ 2 mod 12. So the answer is 2 o’clock.

5. Determine whether the given ISBN code is valid or not. If the code is not valid, give the correct check
digit. 978 – 971 – 98 – 0456 – 6

(9)(1) + (7)(3) + (8)(1) + (9)(3) + (7)(1) + (1)(3) + (9)(1) + (8)(3) + (0)(1) + (4)(3) + (5)(1) + (6)(3) + (6)(1)

= 149 – NOT VALID

Correct Check Digit : 1

= 149 + 1 = 150
