COURSE SYNOPSIS :

This course focuses on the theories, ideologies and the philosophical underpinning
related to the design and development of mathematics curriculum. The intent is to
develop students’ critical understanding of not only the knowledge and the processes
involved in developing and evaluating mathematics curriculum, but also the power and
the politics underlying it. The course is grounded in discussions about mathematics
curriculum used locally (KBSR/KBSM/KSSR/KSSM) as well as overseas.

COURSE EVALUATION:

Your grade will be based on the individual and group assignments, seminar, group
presentation and test. The distribution is as follows:

Assignment I (Individual) 20 %
Assignment II (Group) 20 %
Seminar 10 %
Group Presentation 10 %
Test 1 & 2 40 %

You are expected to attend all meetings of the class. Attendance will be taken at the
beginning of each class. Please take note that if you have one absent without any valid
reason, you will get a verbal warning. A warning letter from the Head of the Department will
be issued if you miss the class for the second time. If more than four times you will be bared
for the final exam.

KRM 6053 RETHINKING MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM

TUGASAN I (20 %) – SEMINAR (Individu)

1. Dapatkan satu laporan/kertas kerja/artikel jurnal/kajian yang berkaitan


dengan kurikulum/pengajaran/pembelajaran/penilaian matematik dalam atau
luar negara.

Berdasarkan kepada isu-isu yang berkaitan, bincangkan secara kritis tentang


isu-isu yang melibatkan Negara Malaysia.

Permarkahan adalah berasaskan kriteria berikut:

i. Isi yang relevan serta disokong oleh contoh-contoh yang sesuai (di
mana perlu) untuk memperjelaskan isi atau hujah.

ii. Pembentangan semasa seminar.

iii. Bukti pembacaan yang luas.

Tugasan ini tidak lebih daripada 10 muka surat sahaja, 1.5 spacing, font 11
arial.

Seminggu selepas pembentangan.

TUGASAN 2 (20%) - FORUM

Terdapat 3 soalan untuk dibincangkan secara on-line menerusi laman MyGuru3.


Pelajar perlu menjawab setiap soalan forum yang diberikan. Kepada setiap soalan
forum itu juga, pelajar perlu juga memberi komentar kepada jawapan yang diberi

oleh rakan pelajar yang lain. Jawapan dan komentar mestilah diselesaikan dalam
tempoh yang dinyatakan. Markah akan diberi kepada kualiti jawapan anda dan juga
komentar yang anda beri terhadap jawapan yang diberi kepada rakan pelajar yang
lain: Gunakan font arial 14.

TUGASAN 2 (20 %) – Kumpulan (2 - 4 orang)

Pilih SATU daripada yang berikut, sila bincangkan secara kritis.

1. Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia sedang merancang membuat transformasi


kurikulum matematik bagi kurun 21. Bincangkan pada pandangan anda
tentang transformasi kurikulum matematik yang sesuai dilaksanakan di
sekolah-sekolah rendah atau menengah di Malaysia.

(Aspek cadangan merangkumi matlamat, objektif dan isi kandungan


kurikulum sekolah menengah atau sekolah rendah)

Panjang laporan tidak melebihi 15 muka surat (saiz A4) bertaip langkau 1.5 font
bersaiz 11, arial. permarkahan adalah berasaskan kriteria berikut:

i. Isi yang relevan serta disokong oleh contoh-contoh yang sesuai (di mana
perlu) untuk memperjelaskan isi atau hujah.
ii. Kemantangan dan keberkesanan hujah.
iii. Bukti pembacaan yang luas.
