This is a method of teaching foreign language proposed by Michael Lewis and Jimmie hill in

1993.

The lexical approach is related to the idea that: the students should focus on being able to
understand and produce lexical phrases or chunks as the book says. A chunk is an umbrella
term which includes all the other terms. As you know lexis is the basis of language. In this
method there’s not learning theory or a theory of language.

Teacher’s roles

To understand and implement the methodology which is based on stages composed of: task,
planning, report.

To create an operative environment. That is a good atmosphere

Some class activities

Guessing the meaning of vocabulary items from context

Working with dictionaries and other reference tools

Working with language paragraphs to research: Word partnerships, preposition usage, style,
etc.

Some chunks could be: by the way, up to now, if I were you.
