Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)This provides multiple means of representation by using providing visuals
of videos and images that are clear, use big symbols of the letters, and use narration and sounds This
assignment provides multiple means of expression by allowing students to use images, drawings, videos,
words, or narration. This provides multiple means of engagement by allowing students to choose what to add
into their movie and which letter they would like to choose. By giving students this many means of
representation it gives all students the opportunity to learn despite hearing, vision, or development
impairments.

Lesson idea implementation: This project will be used as an at home project if students cannot attend class
due to sickness, weather, or any other obstacle. The teacher will assign the student the video to watch and a
paper explaining the project. The teacher will be readily available to answer any questions via email. The
students direct the learning and are able to choose which vowel to study and find their own examples. The
student will choose a vowel to study and create a video displaying the long and short vowel sounds. The
student will research clipart images as examples for the vowel sound. They will then record themselves
explaining the vowel sounds and examples into a video. This will take about 3 days for the student to
complete, at most. Student learning will be assessed through their video creation. By creating this video, they
demonstrate complete knowledge of the content. If they correctly identify the vowel with the correct long
and short vowel sounds, they successfully completed the assignment.
The final product of the project will be used to inform by providing many different examples. These

different examples create an authentic learning experience with real-life examples. The student learning can
be extended to a higher level by sharing these projects outside of the classroom. They could present their
learning to the class or parents. I would conclude the lesson by printing images of the student’s examples and
publishing them around the classroom in categories of each vowel separated by long and short vowels. I will
provide feedback to my students by correcting any wrong examples and allowing them to choose a new
example with assistance and explanation.
Importance of technology: It is critical to use a multimedia tool so that the students can hear the sound being
spoken. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to expect students to accurately grasp the sound a letter
makes on a piece of paper. It is very critical to hear the difference between the vowel’s long and short sounds.
The audio is absolutely necessary. It is helpful to have images with the sound to show a letter with the sound,
and pictures of the examples. The student’s project could be completed without technology, but the content
cannot be delivered well without technology.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some issues that could be faced while creating this project is being
susceptible to obscene images while looking for examples. To solve this issue students can use an online
database approved by the school with a filter adhering to the guidelines. This will avoid any issues or concerns
with parents or administration by using approved websites to image search.

Reflective Practice: These activities could impact student learning by increasing literacy skills. By learning how
to sound out these different vowel sounds, they will have a better understanding of how to read words. I
designed this as an introductory activity, and it can be extended by giving students a list of words. The
students must look at the list of words and determine if the word uses a long or short vowel sound. A
technology tool that could further enhance this lesson would be PowerPoint to be clearer and easier to use
for the students.
