AUSTRALIAN SCAFFOLDS PAST
PROJECTS

Our experience goes right back to 1974. Australian Scaffolds have

been in the building and construction industry for generations.

And like many industries, there have been significant changes during
this time. Improvements in health safety have been dramatic and as a
result, many lives saved.

Other significant changes over time include; computer-aided design,

aerated concrete, robotic equipment, drone technology, and
communication. Improvements in building technology in design,
engineering, and construction have completely changed building
methodology.

Today’s build times were unimaginable only 10 years ago. In the future
will see 3D printed houses, transparent aluminum, self-healing
concrete, robotic construction, smart bricks and many more.

However, despite the improvements somethings will never change.

Builders and project managers still require more than ever, highly
skilled and experienced contractors to get the job done on time, on
budget, and with minimal site disruption. Experienced contractors with
innovative solutions that do not compromise on quality or safety are
critical to meeting ever faster construction programs.
TALLOWA DAM 1974
We are very proud of our family involvement in
the building and construction industry in
Australia. We have always overcome
obstacles where others could not.

In the early 1970s, Neil and George Butlin

were contracted to make changes to the
spillway to the under-construction Tallowa
Dam. Developed by the Snowy Hydro Authority
and built by Civil & Civic (later bought out by
Lendlease).

Other contractors were unable to create a

safe and practical solution to access the
steeply inclined spillway work face. Our
solution involved floating a barge to the top of
the dam wall.

Lowering a lightweight aluminum modified

scaffold onto two steel rail tracks. The
equipment moved up and down by an electric
winch and powered by a diesel generator. To
this day, 45 years later, the Snowy Hydro
Authority and Lendlease are still active
customers of Australian Scaffolds.
WINDSOR BRIDGE
Australian Scaffolds designed the scaffolding to the new replacement
bridge in Windsor, NSW, developed by the NSW Government and built
by the Georgiou Group.

Engineered and construction

of a cantilevered scaffold
built on land and moved onto
a pier in the middle of the
river by crane.

Saving critical time to the

construction program.

Our experience goes right

back to 1974 and we know,
no matter how fast or how
many things change, some
things will always stay the
same.

When you need innovative

solutions from a reliable
experienced yet skilled
contractor you can trust, call
Australian Scaffolds .
TO BUY OR RENT SCAFFOLDING

So, you’re beginning a new construction or renovation project, and you’re

trying to determine whether to buy or rent scaffolding. Is scaffolding hire
is right for you, or if you should purchase your scaffolding for the project.

For commercial and industrial jobs, it can be hard to understand what will
be more cost-effective. Should you rent light duty aluminum scaffold
products, or invest in your own steel scaffolding, acrow props, edge
protection, and other such products? In this article, we’ll help you
understand a few of the factors that may determine whether buying or
renting scaffolding may be right for you. Let’s begin now, and discuss all
of the factors that may affect your decision.
WHAT YOU NEED TO CONSIDER
THE LENGTH OF YOUR PROJECT

Most of the time, we recommend renting

scaffolding for any project that will take
three months or less.

It doesn’t make sense to search for trestles

for sale or to buy scaffolding for a project
that’s this short – it’s just not cost-
effective.

THE AMOUNT OF SCAFFOLDING YOU NEED

If you are undertaking a very large job, it may be

more economical to rent scaffolding materials and
equipment, compared to purchasing it.

STORAGE FOR YOUR SCAFFOLDING

This is another important consideration when

thinking about purchasing scaffolding. If you
rent scaffolding, your rental partner will
disassemble it and take it away to their own
storage facility after your project is done.
YOUR OVERALL BUDGET

In the short term, renting scaffolding

is cheaper, which allows you to spend
more money on other parts of your
project, and invest in the other tools
and materials that you may need for
your job.

This is ideal if you are on a tight

budget.

YOUR ABILITY TO ASSEMBLE AND DISMANTLE YOUR OWN SCAFFOLDING

This is the final consideration, and one of the most important. A scaffold
hire service is responsible for the assembly and disassembly of a
scaffolding installation, in most cases.

They arrive, set up the scaffold properly, and follow Australian standards
and regulations for safety and proper setup. Read our article on
advanced scaffolding.

Turn to a third-party scaffolding company to make sure that your

scaffolding is safe, and professionally installed. You can’t put a price on
the safety of your workers!

Australia Scaffold is the
Frame Scaffold experts.
Frame Scaffold or A-Frame
Scaffold is versatile, easy to
erect, and can be built
several storeys high.

Frame scaffold or brickies

scaffolding are common
industry terms that refer to
the popular Frame and Brace
scaffolding. This the most
common type of scaffold
used by contractors of all
types, from carpenters and
bricklayers to the
homeowner on the weekend
project.
A-FRAME SCAFFOLD
Features:

It’s lightweight
Super fast to erect
Can be installed by one person
It’s prefabricated!
All of which saves you time and money.

Builders love to use frame scaffold because there are no standards

between the bricklayer and the wall. Giving full access to the face of the
wall. Frame scaffold is not only used by builders; many trades also benefit
from the great features of frame scaffold.

ACROW PROPS

Australian Scaffold has a complete range of Acrow Props for sale.We

deliver Australia wide. An Acrow prop is a telescopic tubular steel
piece of construction equipment and is used as a temporary support.

Acrow props are known by several names including shore prop, acro
prop, acro jack, adjustable prop and post shores. Height adjustable by a
wide diameter screw thread which is on the outside of the tube.

The use of a screw thread means that the props are able to be tightened
when already in place, which allows the user to adjust the load that
each one bears. The safe working load (SWL) that each Acrow Prop can
bear depends on the size.
Acrow Prop Inner What Is An Acrow
Prop?

An Acrow prop is a telescopic tubular steel piece of construction

equipment. It is used as a temporary support. Acrow props are known
by several names including shore prop, acro prop, acro jack and post
shores.

They are height adjustable by a wide diameter screw thread which is on

the outside of the tube. The use of a screw thread means that the props
are able to be tightened when already in place, which allows the user to
adjust the load that each one bears (adjustable load bearing).

The safe working load (SWL) that each Acrow Prop can bear depends
on the size .

The SWL decreases as the prop is extended.

Uses

Acrow props are used mainly for shoring to provide temporary support
during building repair or alteration work for overhead structures during
construction. A typical use is to support an existing vertical beam
whilst supports are removed or restored. Strongboys are used when
masonry itself is to be supported; the strongboy is positioned into the
bed joints.
The base and top plates of Acrow props have a 150mm x 150mm surface
area, so they are great for supporting a vertical load but are at risk of
toppling if there is any sideways force. If this is a possibility, props
should be strutted or braced with scaffolding tubes.

Although the original Acrow prop was only envisioned for vertical support,
the range has since been expanded. Shoring ‘push and pull’ props with
swivelling footplates are used to support concrete formwork. Trench
struts are used for shoring horizontal trench work. These are similar, but
have a ‘claw’ form to their baseplates.

GENERAL INFORMATION

If you divide the weight to be held by the kN

capacity of the prop this will tell you how
many props you need. Adding bracing to a
propping system will increase the capacity
the propping can hold. 1 kN =
101.971621298 kilograms – force.

Always seek the advice of a professional

before undertaking any propping/shoring
projects.

A propping job that goes wrong can be

disastrous, endanger lives and be extremely
expensive to fix.
TRESTLE SCAFFOLD FOR SALE

Australian Scaffold has a complete range of scaffold trestles for sale.

If you need any advice or are unsure of what you require, please give us
a ring on 1300 919 905 and speak to a qualified and friendly

Trestle scaffold is a scaffold assembled from prefabricated trestles,

platforms or planks and braces if required.

Trestle scaffolds are commonly used in construction by a wide range of

trades including bricklayers, air conditioning installers, builders,
bricklayers, carpenters, electricians, plasterers, painters, scaffolders
and the home handyman, plasterers, painters and home handymen.
Trestle scaffolds generally do not require a licensed scaffolder to erect
or dismantle if the work platform is under 4m.
TRESTLE SCAFFOLD FOR SALE

Trestle scaffolds should be

erected and dismantled by a
competent person to ensure
both the installer’s safety
and the stability of the
overall structure. Braces
should be attached to the
trestles following the
manufacturer’s or supplier’s
instructions.

As the height of trestles increase, there is a greater need to provide

lateral stability to the trestles.

Trestle scaffolds should be stable and erected on a solid foundation to

ensure it can safely carry and distribute intended workloads. Outriggers
or ties to an existing structure can be used to ensure stability.

Trestle scaffolds should:

Have edge protection installed where potential falls would result in

injury to people using the scaffold or the fall area contains hazards,
e.g. sharp objects like steel reinforcing bars.
Never exceed the working load limit

Be fully planked to the maximum width, irrespective of the duty

rating.

Use scaffold planks that are in good condition and secured against
uplift

Overhang end supports between 150–250 mm

Work platform to be at least 450 mm wide. On sloping or uneven

ground use a trestle that incorporates height adjustment.
