Series of Messages in the Book of Revelation

FOURTH MESSAGE:
The Events Before and at the End of the 2nd Coming of Christ (Revelation 6-7)

A. The Lord Christ “opens” the seals – What is happening in the visible realm? [World Events
= Signs of the 2nd Coming] (Revelation 6:1-14, Mk. 13, Mt. 24, Lk. 21)
1st Seal: Conflicts among Nations
2nd Seal: Conflicts within Nations
3rd Seal: Constancy of Poverty and Vices
4th Seal: Compound Causes of Deaths
5th Seal: Condemnation of God’s People
6th Seal: Confusion due to Nature’s Disasters

After the 6th Seal, the world meets God [Revelation 6:15-17]
1. The world classifies the people of the world “economically” (7 Classes: kings, princes,
generals, rich, mighty, free and slave)
2. The world fears and hides from God
3. The end of the unbelieving world is the “wrath of God”

B. The Lord Jesus Christ also “shows” His present works – What is happening in the invisible
realm? [the Spiritual Events before the 2nd Coming (Revelation 7:1-8)]: God protects His
people (7:1-8).
1. Angels are not allowed to punished or hurt the earth, seas and trees until God’s people are
“sealed” or protected (v. 1-3)
2. The total number of God’s people or “children of Israel” is 144,000, 12,000 from each tribe of
Jacob (Dan was not included)

NOTE 1: I would like to believe that God’s people are described in a variety of ways in the Book of
Revelation.
1. They are the “144,000 children of Israel” (7:4) – they are numbered, known and “sealed” by
God. These 144,000 will stand on Mount Zion with the Lamb “having His Father’s name written
in their foreheads” (14:1). They are “redeemed from the earth. They are they which were not
defiled with women for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever
He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the
Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile for they are without fault before the throne of God”
(14:3-5).

2. God’s people are also the “great multitude which no man can number” (7:9) – in human
point of view. They came out of “great tribulation and have washed their robes and made them
white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve Him day
and night in His temple and He that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall
hunger no more, neither the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst
of the throne shall feed them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters. And God shall
wipe away all tears from their eyes” (7:14-17).

3. God’s people is also represented by the “2 witnesses” (11:3) also referred as the “2 olive
trees and 2 candlesticks” (11:4) – faithful witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ, given power to
do miracles, killed by the beast, resurrected after 3 days, and raptured or ascended to heaven;
same as the experience of the Lord Jesus.
4. Also, the “offspring of the woman” (12:17) are God’s people who “keep the commandments
of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (12:17).

5. God’s people are also referred to as “saints”. The beast of the sea shall make “war with the
saints and overcome them” (13:7, 20:9). Hence, they are given warning: “If any man has an
ear, let him hear. He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity. He that kills with the sword
must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints” (13:9-10).

6. The Lamb’s “wife who made herself ready” (19:7) is also referring to God’s people. She was
“arrayed in fine linen, clean and white for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (19:8).
They are those “called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb” (19:9).

7. God’s people are also described as those that “were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for
the word of God” (20:4) who “had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had
received his mark on their foreheads or in their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ a
thousand years” (20:4). They are the “blessed and holy who hath a part in the first resurrection.
On such the second death hath no power but they shall be as priests of God and of Christ and
shall reign with Him a thousand years” (20:6). Revelation 1:5-6 says of all believers, “And from
Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of
kings of the earth. Unto Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood and
hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father. To Him be glory and dominion for
ever and ever. Amen”.

8. One good description of God’s people are “overcomers” (21:7). “He that overcomes shall
inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be my son” (12:7). The seven churches are
called to overcome.
a. Ephesus: “To him that overcome will I give to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of
the paradise of God” (2:7)
b. Smyrna: “He that overcome shall not be hurt of the second death” (2:11)
c. Pergamos: “To him that overcome will I give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him
a white stone and in the stone a new name written which no man knows saving he that
receives it” (2:17)
d. Thyatira: “And he that overcome and keep my works unto the end, to him will I give power
over the nations. And he shall rule them with a rod of iron as the vessels of the potter shall
they be broken to shivers even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning
star” (2:26-28)
e. Sardis: “He that overcome the same shall be clothed in white raiment and I will not blot
out his name out of the book of life but I will confess his name before my Father and
before his angels” (3:5)
f. Philadelphia: “Him that overcome will I make a pillar in the temple of my God and he shall
go no more out. And I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of
my God which is the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God and I will write upon
him my new name” (3:12)
g. Laodicea: “To him that overcome will I grant to sit with me in my throne eve as I also
overcame and am set down with my Father in His throne” (3:21)
After the 6th Seal, God’s servants meet God [Revelation 7:9-17]
1. God classifies His people “culturally” (nation, kindred, peoples, language)
2. God’s servants rejoice and dwell in God’s presence (palms, white robes, joined by all angels, the
24 elders, the 4 living creatures)
3. Their end is the “care and protection” of the Lamb of God
Conclusion: Revelation 6-7 speaks of the world and the heavenly events before the 2nd Coming
with emphasis on meeting God after the 6th seal. The end of the unbelieving world is God’s wrath
while the end of the servants of God are in God’s presence with Christ taking care of them.
