The primary objective of this study is to explore and understand the strive and
experiences of the NDP nurses in rendering health care services to the catchment areas of
Saguiaran during the Marawi siege. Furthermore, the study aims to identify the difficulties and
perceived risks during the delivery of health care services, the effects of Marawi siege on the
provision of health care services, and the reasons why they were unable or able to provide health
care services in the catchment areas of Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur during the Marawi siege. A
qualitative, phenomenological approach was used to attain the study’s objectives. A total of three
(3) NDP nurses were interviewed; two (2) of the participants were both deployed in Saguiaran
RHU for two (2) years while the third participant is from different municipality but was
deployed in Saguiaran RHU during the siege. Collaizi’s method was employed. Data was
gathered through in-depth face-to-face interviews with the participants or conversational partners
which gave them an opportunity to verbalize their feelings regarding their experiences in
rendering healthcare services during the siege. Through this study, participants were able to
share the difficulties they have encountered and the risk they have perceived in rendering
healthcare services to the Saguiaran residents and IDPs during the siege.
The findings of this study revealed that during the Marawi siege, the need for health
services escalated due to the coming of the group of evacuees or IDPs who found their temporary
shelter in Saguiaran vicinity. Despite the adversity faced by the NDP nurses in the Saguiaran
RHU in the provision of healthcare services, they showed their flexibility and efficiency in order
to address and manage the health concerns of these people.
