Introduction

By definition human mortality can be described as the number of individuals who die from
sarcomas arising from a particular cause (Yamashita, Tanaka and Ando, 1997).Burn-Murdoch
and Bruce-Lockhart visual data presentation narrate on how the current Wales and England
mortality rate has been for the last 16 years. The two authors finding concluded that, the
introduction of the new mode of medications, death rate have tremendously reduced over the
years. The findings further established that although new technologies has aided to the reduction
of mortality deaths as a result of communicable diseases, other new diseases like musculoskeletal
illness, premature death, organs illness has increased the death rates.

Strengths

Based on Stone (2006), one of the elements that should stand out in an effective data
visualization data is its ability to capture vital elements using the smallest details possible. Burn-
Murdoch and Bruce-Lockhart has applied the use clear heading and key to direct the reader in
discerning between infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, injuries, and maternal,
perinatal, and nutritional conditions. Furthermore, data visualization should communicate
enough information to the reader. The uses of different sizes of circles show the extent to which
different illness affect people. The larger the circle, the more the number of mortality death.
Another aspect that Murdoch and Bruce-Lockhart have effectively utilized is the times span. A
proper times-span allows the reader to effectively follow and understand the data being
presented. In the data visualization the authors applied a 16 year time’s span which is convenient
according to Nyberg et al., (2012). Based on the Nyberg’s report a duration of ten years allows the
readers to follow and note the changes in the factors being examined. Lastly, the initiative to
separate the gender while representing the data has greatly ensured that the information is well-
presented. Through this aspect one can tell the extent to which either gender is affected by the
diseases.
