The objective of research would be to know the stress description of nurses in Regional
Mental Hospital of North Sumatera 2010 related to individual factors (age, sex, marital status
and work term) and psychosocial factors (workload, interpersonal relationship, responsibility
and work-safety). This was a descriptive research using cross–sectional design, the
population was all nurses in Regional Mental Hospital of North Sumatera, 117 individuals.
The sample was nurses of Hospitalization Unit of Regional Mental Hospital, North Sumatera,
54 individuals. The result indicated, that individuals with stress were 13 (24,07%) people,
and those without stress 41 (75,93%) peoples. The respondents with stress were in age group
41,7 individuals (12,96%), female 8 individuals (14-81%), and work term 18 years, 7
individuals (12.96%), and married 13 individuals (24,07%). In rerelation to psychosocial
factor the respondents with stress feeling moderate workload were 8 individuals (17,81%),
moderate interpersonal relationship, 7 individuals (12,96%), small work responsibiliry, 7
individuals (12,96%), and less work safety, 8 individuals (14,81%). It is then suggested to
build a good communication with supervisor, and colleges to overcome the problems
collaboratively, good description of job and better dicipline, to regulate and control the
emotional feeling in accomplishing the tasks, either in receiving and treating the patients, and
to take collaborative measures to minimize the workload, sufficient rest and to spend the
holidays for relaxation....
