Subject description:

Hand hygiene is the single most important factor for healthcare workers to
practice in reduces the incidence of healthcare associated infections. The reason
need good hand hygiene to prevent infections that patients acquire in the hospital.

Prerequisites :
 A & P of skin
 Microbiology - Mode of Transmission Infection
 Infection Prevention and Control

Objective : Expected Knowledge, Attitudes and skills


The student should be able to:
1. Discuss purpose of hand hygiene to inculcate and appreciate the importance of
hand hygiene in preventing infection in clinical area.
2. Identify, analyze and apply the principles of hands hygiene in relation to
management patients in the clinical area.
3. Perform hand washing according to the needs; 5 moments of hand hygiene.
4. Select and demonstrate appropriate type of hand hygiene to use on visible
dirty or soiled.
