The proper holding ofthe stick is very important when playing any steelpan instrument. The hand musr nor
be too rigid, nor must the stick be held tightly.

The sticks are to be held by the thumb, forefinger and middle-finger,

movements have become developed through practice.

The wrist is where most of the emphasis must be placed when playing. When the forearrn
and shoulder is used, too much force is exerted and notes become untuned by the constant
hammering,
