Quantifiers: Hello and welcome back, in this lesson we will be looking at quantifiers. These can be a word or a phrase which is used before a noun to indicate the amount or quantity. Some: The word ‘some’ can be used when there is a little, a few or small number or amount of something. Some is usually used within positive sentences for both countable and uncountable nouns. 1,2, 3,4 Recap: Count nouns can be counted as one or more. Non count nouns can’t be counted as they express a group. Examples of ‘some’: | have some friends in America. I drink some wine. ius Some people Use in a question: ‘Some’ is used in a question, when we expect a positive answer. (Yes) ? Would you like some coffee? Can | borrow some money? il WA Any: The word ‘any’ is used for objects that are one, small or all. ‘Any’ is used for both countable and uncountable nouns and is used within negative sentences. Examples of ‘any’: He doesn't have any food. | never do any homework. | never have any money. ‘Any’ can be used in a question when a sentence is grammatically positive, but the meaning of the sentence is negative. Use in a question: ? Do you have any money? Do you have any idea? ~—Do you know any people? Much: ‘Much’ is used to express that there is a large quantity of something and only used with uncountable nouns. Only really used for negative sentences. Examples of ‘much’: Ihave too much food. Iran too much. They don't have much money. Use in a question: How much is this? Is this too much? Many ‘Many’ is used to express that there is a large quantity of something and only used with countable nouns. Only really used for negative sentences. Examples of ‘many’: | don't have many shoes. | have many friends. | made many mistakes. Use in a question: How many people? Are there too many cats? 2. Rs. Other quantifiers: One - used if there is a single object or person. (One apple) Couple/pair — used if there are two of something. (Acouple of drinks, please!) < (a pair of socks) Few — used if there are three of something (A few rounds of golf) Recap: wild animals Wild animals are found in the country side, such as: Gy Eag_e H_re Squi_el Ba_ger Let's use these animals with the quantifiers: Some eagles were seen on the mountain.
