This can be easily understood in terms of Le-Chatlier principle which states that

"whenever the equillibrium is disturbed the reaction will go in that direction in


which the effect of disturbance has been minimized "

1. when the reaction is heated : Since the reaction is endothermic we can rewrite
it as

PCl5 + heat = PCl3 + Cl2

hence during heating reaction will go in that direction in which effect of heat
will be minimized i.e reaction will go forward

2. Volume of the vessel is decreased : Decreased volume will leads to an increase


in pressure. hence according to Le-Chatlier principle equillibrium will sift so as
to decrease the gas pressure . since pressure of gas is proportional to the moles
of gas hence reaction will goes to that direction in which number of moles are
decreasing i.e reaction will go backward

3. Some Cl2 is removed : reaction will goes to that direction in which


concentration of Cl2 will increase hence reaction will go backward
