Reading notes: The numerals to the left correspond to the numbered shot headings which
are contained in the shooting script. The script is 81 pages (plus a few short inserts) and
the film’s running time is 90 minutes. When you read “2.75", for instance, this means the
scene ends 75% into page 3.

TITLE CARD - DAY 89 [title card not in the script]
We hear, very clearly, the sound of light wind.

1. MAIN ST. A streetlight; no illumination...no movement. Wind blows through trees in
this small town. Shop windows, cars covered in dust, the place seems frozen in time.
In the middle of the road one can see a sand path.

2. Inside the General Store, also dusty. Shelves nearly empty.

3. A slow move across the floor - more empty shelves. No sound. TINY FEET JUMP
INTO OUR MOVING FRAME! - then gone. In the next aisle, A SMALL DARK FIGURE!!!
Then its gone. A WOMAN scans medicine bottles, looking for the right medicine.
Finding it, she slowly lowers herself to the ground to an 8 year old BOY. HE IS
BAREFOOT, skin pale from fever. The mother jostles a medicine bottle and pills
RATTLE. This is the first, deliberate sound we’ve heard. The mother... FREEZES! The
boy’s face freezes in panic. The mother, alarmed! After a moment, each relieves a
breath. P. 2.75

4. A 10 year old GIRL stands on her toes, barely able to see over a counter to her
mother. She smiles and gives a thumbs up. The girl, also barefoot, runs lightly
through the store. The GIRL turns to a SMALL BOY (age 4) sitting on the floor, also
barefoot. The boy has drawn a rocket ship in the thick floor dust. He signs to his
sister: “That’s how... we get away.” We see a hearing aid in the girl’s ear.

5. NEXT AISLE, the girl comes around the tall shelf when her eyes go wide! The boy,
standing on a small box, STRETCHES to reach a toy space shuttle on a high shelf.
2

The toy FALLS. The girl SLIDES to the ground and catches the toy before it hits the
ground! She closes her eyes, takes a breath. She sees a figure in the foreground. P.
3.8

6. Outside the General Store the FATHER has items wrapped in a quilt. He puts
bandages, wrapped syringes, food into a backpack. The girl, by her father now, scans
through a box of paintbrushes, bottles of glue, bottles of lighter fluid and a stack of
old newspapers. Her face lights up. She pulls out a SALVAGED SECURITY CAMERA
and two exposed CIRCUIT BOARDS. The girl scans the boards with a voracity,
pointing out to the father particular areas of interest. He smiles. Suddenly, the box
of Amoxicillin comes into frame and is placed on top... along with two boxes of sugar.
The father looks up at his wife. After a beat, she signs: “For my tea.” The family signs
jokes about a sweet tooth. The youngest son wants to take the space shuttle toy.
Father points out the batteries will allow it to make noise, and the father puts the
toy back on the shelf. The boy - disappointed. The sister surreptitiously puts the toy
in the boy’s sweatshirt, but only after having removed its batteries and placing them
on the shelf. The boy and girl share a “don’t tell on me” look. P. 5.5

7. As the family quietly hikes out of town ...

8. The camera returns to the shelf and the batteries are GONE.

9. The family walks single file on a road, the father in the front carrying their sick son.
The four-year-old boy brings up the rear. Again, the QUIET.

10. The sand path continues over a rusty bridge. The 4-year-old boy waits before
crossing the bridge. For a moment, the scene unfolds from the DEAF GIRL’S POV
(total silence). She sees her mother panic, her father run toward the 4-year old.
Others’ POV: the boy has played with the toy; it makes sound. The father runs to
save him, but the boy is snatched by a monster. P. 7.75

Title Card: Day 472 [Title card not in the script]

11. We look down on sand, as if on a beach. Sound of ocean. Face of the daughter,
REGAN ABBOTT, her hair longer (it’s two years later). She lays in the sand ... She
awakens, but she is on a sand path near a farm’s cornfield. She holds the scratched
toy shuttle. A form walks toward Regan. It is her mother, EVELYN ABBOTT, who
carries a basket of vegetables. Mom smiles, Regan doesn’t. Barefoot, they walk a
sand path toward a weathered barn, with what appear to be two strands of
Christmas tree lights strung from it. P. 10.3

12. Inside a truck, MARCUS ABBOTT, now ten, plays as if he’s driving it. But he appears
not to be having fun. No sound!

13. Outside the truck, the camera tracks a sand path until we see abandoned tractors
and equipment.

14. Marcus, still inside the truck, sees a dark figure outside. His faces brightens a bit.
We see a towering silo.

15. Marcus quietly slips out of the truck’s cab window. The hand of LEE ABBOTT (38)
touches Marcus’ shoulder. Lee has lost weight and his eyes look sleep deprived. We
see a repair shop. P.11.6

16. The Christmas lights dance in the foreground of the barn. They are strung to run in
between two tall doors of the barn. The doors’ edges are wrapped with foam.
Marcus walks into the barn.

17. We are inside, but this does not appear to be a barn. Mattresses are in the horse
stalls. Clothes hang here, there. Books next to a lamp. The walls are covered with ...
trash (newspaper, foam, etc). At first one thinks of hoarders, but we can tell, in fact,
this is a well maintained home. Marcus moves a mattress to reveal a hole, which he
descends... P. 12.75

18. ... into the SAFE ROOM. Elaborate sound insulation. Pillows, blankets. Marcus walks
past Evelyn, who happily holds up a baby mobile and we see her protruding belly - 8
months along. Marcus walks past Regan who glues newspapers to the wall of an
odd wooden box. New baby blankets are set in the box; a teddy bear. Then we see
4

a clear plastic air mask. Evelyn connects clear plastic tubes to the air mask. Marcus
assists with glueing newspaper to the wall. The newspaper reads: IMAGE OF
MASSACRED MILITARY SHOCKS THE WORLD. Marcus is upset by the image of
death in the newspaper. Evelyn tosses a pillow at Marcus, who secures it to the wall.
P. 13.9

19. At dusk, Lee stands atop the silo, gazing out over the large farm. Christmas lights
flicker above the sand paths. Another string of lights come on revealing another
path. More lights reveal a labyrinth of paths. Lee, in pleasure, lights a cigarette and a
fire in a steel drum. Miles away, another fire lights up. Then another and another.
Lee gazes at the 5X6 nursery school photo of a 4 year old boy. Lee takes one last
puff and places the photo in a small box at his feet. Lee descends the silo’s ladder
and the camera pans to a CRATER across the ridge, away from the silo.

20. In the barn, shots reveal the elaborate machinations involved in preparing a hot
meal of fish with lemon and rosemary and garlic. P. 15.8

21. In the barn, Regan walks down the row of horse stall bedrooms to a bathroom
where Lee washes his face. Regan summons her father to dinner.

22. Their heads bowed for prayer. A family meal. No plates. Food placed on plastic
placements. They use bread to collect food. P. 16.5

23. In the barn’s living room, Marcus and Regan play Monopoly, the pieces made with
bobbles of wool; money is sugar packets. The dice rolled on the dirt floor. Marcus
reaches for something. His arm hits the lamp. A booming crash and a fire starts. The
sound is the first BIG SOUND we’ve heard. The kids freeze in horror. Lee quickly
throws a quilt over the flame. Fire is gone. SILENCE. EVERYONE FREEZES! NO ONE
BREATHS. They look around - at the ceiling - as if waiting. Lee signals “be quiet.” A
long pause. Nothing happens. They appear to relax, when BANG - something has hit
the roof. A high pitched shriek, claws sliding down the aluminum roof. Marcus,
upset. Regan, stoic. Lee looks out a window. We see claws. More shrieking. Two
raccoons scamper off into the dark. The raccoons scamper down a path into a
cornfield, and then a giant claw crushes the first raccoon’s head. P. 18.2

24. Outside, in silhouette, birds sit on a telephone wires.

5

25. A series of shots reveals an elaborate security camera system which looks over the
whole farm. ON newspaper headline which reads: NUMBER OF CONFIRMED
GLOBAL LANDING SITES GROWS TO 128. More headlines about the
“INDESTRUCTIBLE INVADERS.” Information conveyed: mankind is screwed.

26. Lee, in his basement work area in the farmhouse, works on small electronic devices,
hearing aids. An elaborate security camera system, which monitors the whole
perimeter of the farm, is shown, as well as ham radio equipment, amplifiers and
speakers. P. 20.6

27. Evelyn, wearing ear buds, goes down the stairs and puts her hand on Lee’s shoulder.
He removes his head phones. We see his work is on a hearing aid. Evelyn has pulled
her hair back and wears lip stick. It is date night. She sweetly beckons Lee to her
side. Lee stands and the couple sway and dance in total silence. Evelyn removes
one of her ear buds and puts it to Lee’s ear. MUSIC RUSHES IN !! Neil Young’s
“Harvest Moon.” Then we see water hitting the glass window. P. 22.4

28. Outside a strong night rain pours down.

29. A beautiful crisp morning.

30. A shot of water washing away sand from one of the paths. Lee appears with a heavy
backpack and, close on his hands, he repairs the path with sand to again smooth the
path.

31. In the barn’s safe room, Evelyn with a blood pressure sleeve on. About her,
bandages and IV bags. She marks her blood pressure on a calendar and we see her
due date is four weeks away. She puts the stethoscope to her belly and we hear the
lub-dub, lub-dub of her baby’s heartbeat. P. 23.5

32. Regan walks along a sand path toward the farmhouse.

33. Inside the farmhouse she steps upon deliberately painted markings on its floor, as if
she is playing twister.

34. Regan looks down the stairs to the basement. A figure (Lee) comes into frame and
grabs her.
6

35. Outside now, Lee signs: you cannot go down there! Regan: “why not? I won’t make
a sound. I’m not a child!” Lee pulls from his pocket a hearing aid and gives it to
Regan. She signs: “it won’t work!” Lee signs: “it might.” Lee tries to put the hearing
aid on. Regan pushes his hand away. There’s history in this exchange. Has Regan
given up hope? Tears come to her face and she snatches the aid from Lee’s hand and
walks away.

36. In the barn, Marcus writes a math problem in a notebook. Evelyn corrects him; she
is home schooling. Lee approaches. Marcus signs, “don’t make me go.” Evelyn, “he’ll
take care of you. He wants you to learn these things....so you can take care of me in
my old age.” Evelyn pretends to age in front of Marcus. His mood swings to happy.
P. 25.6

37. Outside the barn Lee arranges Marcus’ backpack, who says “don’t make me go.” Lee,
“it will be all right.” Regan appears and says “I’ll go.” But Lee won’t have it. Regan is
disappointed. Evelyn gives a disappointed look. Marcus and Lee hike down a sand
path toward the woods.

38. Regan, in her bedroom, throws the hearing aid on the floor. Her room is sparse. But
present are electronic equipment, tools, and architectural drawings and tools. She
furiously packs things and tools into a pillow case. She picks up the hearing aid,
pulls the wire of the hearing aid at her ear out, and tries the new hearing aid.
NOTHING, her disappointment and a veil of anger apparent. Crying, she grabs her
pillow case and exits. P. 37.75

39. Lee and Marcus walk down a path in a lush valley. Marcus’ nervous eyes take in
everything. It is a day of learning. Lee puts his hands on Marcus chest; we see a deer
down the path. The deer sees them and quietly moves along.

40. At the farmhouse, we follow rain off the roof into PVC pipe into the basement - a
water collection system running to ...

41. ... a washing machine in the basement. Evelyn does laundry. Very pregnant, she
struggles to carry the laundry bags up the stair case. The bag catches on a nail
protruding out of the step. She almost falls. CLOSE ON the NAIL, STICKING
STRAIGHT UP OUT OF THE STAIR. P. 30.4
7

42. Pillowcase in hand, Regan walks with a purpose, away from the farm.

43. A jarring SOUND OF WATER RUSHES IN, moving water in a river. Lee and Marcus
exit from trees toward the river. Marcus feet are at the edge of the sand path - there
is no where else to go. Lee’s hands go into the cold water of the river. Marcus
watches as Lee pulls up a wooden contraption. Marcus is confused, because pulling
the contraption from the water MADE A SOUND. Lee pulls a trout from the trap and
he puts it in his bag. It flops around making SOUNDS. Marcus, scared, signs: “They
will hear you.” Lee grabs Marcus, calms him and signs: “not if there is a constant,
louder sound nearby.” Lee explains the river is a masking sound. The trout flops
some more. Marcus processes this lesson. P. 32.25

44. Evelyn hangs laundry outside. She proceeds ...

45. ... to the farmhouse, seemingly compelled to go in and view rooms in the farmhouse.

46. A LOUD waterfall; Lee and Marcus stand beneath it. Lee shouts. Marcus, nervous
and scared. Lee shouts again. Lee bends down and actually talks to Marcus, the first
words he has heard in four years “You are alright.” Marcus finally processes it and
he hoots meekly. Lee says “you can do better.” And Marcus hoots enthusiastically, a
smile now on his face. P. 33.8

47. Regan at the old bridge, knelling at a hand-made cross. She takes the toy shuttle
from the pillowcase and manipulates and cuts wires. She flips a switch and we see
red and blue lights, but NO SOUND. P. 34.5

48. Evelyn is in the room of her deceased son. Spotless. Spaceship wall paper; toys. She
contemplates the loss of her son.

49. At the waterfall, Marcus and Lee are bonding. Marcus asks why Lee didn’t let Regan
come with them, “is it because you blame her ... because she blames herself.” Lee, “it
was no one’s fault.” Marcus: “you still love her don’t you?” Lee: “of course.” Marcus:
“you should tell her.” P. 36.25

50. Evelyn holds a hand-made mirror with name “Beau” on it. She is leaving the room ...
pauses ... body tightens ... she steadies herself ...fluid hits the floorboards.
8

51. Lee and Marcus, walking back to the farm, pass a dilapidated house. A dark figure
appears. Lee, frozen. Marcus, frightened. They see a MAN, emaciated and out of it,
holding the hand of a dead woman. The man is at the end of his rope. A sequence
where Lee carries Marcus to a safe space before the MAN screams. Of course, this
attracts a monster, the sceeechhhhh, and the man’s death. We feel Marcus’ terrified
reaction to the hideous sounds of carnage. P. 38.5

52. In the farmhouse, we follow fluid on the floor. Evelyn battles contractions. (It’s 4
weeks too soon). She still holds the mirror.

53. She goes down stairs. CLOSE ON the exposed nail. Evelyn steps on it. She drops the
mirror (which definitely makes SOUND). Evelyn frees her foot and goes to Lee’s
work area. She moves things and flips a switch ...

54. ... which illuminates RED LIGHTS strung all about the farm. It’s a signal. P.40.3

55. Regan, still at the bridge, doesn’t see the lights.

56. Back to Evelyn, taking breaths. Maybe it will be alright. Then a large shadow flashes
the doorway. Evelyn reacts in terror.

57. Lee carries Marcus and sees the RED LIT silo on the horizon. Lee, knowing what this
means, breaks into full sprint. P. 41.3

58. Evelyn, at Lee’s security console. She’s trying to THINK. Her eyes fall on the small
box of electronics and we hear scratching of claws on a wall and on glass. A
Screeech ! The contractions start again. Then subsides.

59. Evelyn rushes to the first floor. A nondescript sound.

60. Evelyn slides behind a large boiler. The nondescript sound gets closer. The monster
appears, our first real view of the thing, and it uses plates and scales on its form to
scan for sound. Suddenly, an electronic kitchen timer GOES OFF! The monster
pounces for it and attacks. Evelyn escapes. P.43.9

61. In the hallway, Evelyn steps from painted spot to painted spot. A dark shadow
9

walks up the sand path. The front hall lights begin to brighten.

62. Lee places Marcus on the ground in the barn. He gives Marcus a flashlight. Lee tells
him to “rocket” out of here; the same sign 4-year old Beau used in the general store.
Marcus, scared, shakes his head no. Lee tells Marcus “Your mother is in trouble. I
need you to do this for her.” The look in Marcus’s changes, and he’s out the barn. Lee
takes a breath, as if in prayer “God, protect us all.”

63. In the farmhouse, Evelyn carries blankets to the bathroom. Another contraction.
THIS IS HAPPENING ! Evelyn hears the monster’s sound sound come up the stairs.
Evelyn, in the bathtub now, IN PAIN! P. 46.2

64. Lee pulls a shot gun from under a mattress in the barn.

65. Marcus looks up at a huge corn field watering sprinkler.

66. Evelyn - in the bathtub - the SOUND getting closer. She begins to cry, preparing for
the end. Then, CONTRACTION and then blood and fluid pool around her as the light
above her goes out. But the pain is too much. Evelyn and the new baby scream in
guttural pain and at the same time a BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM ! Marcus was
successful ! P. 47.2

67. Lee, shot gun in hand, runs down a path and all about him lights and fireworks
explode. Red, white and blue sparkles fill the air.

68. Regan, on a road, sits up and the fireworks illuminate her face.

69. Lee carefully surveys the farmhouse dining room. He sees the wall paper has been
ripped. He goes up the stairs and sees the drops of blood.

70. Lee goes to the bathtub, sees blood, but the tub is empty. He slides to the floor and
weeps. He looks at a beveled glass shower door and sees a bloody hand. Lee goes to
the shower and finds Evelyn holding her sleeping baby. P. 48.75

71. Marcus walks along the cornfield, a look of pride on his face. Then, snapping
sounds. Marcus, now scared again, runs then climbs atop an old tractor. A deer
appears. Marcus falls, hits his head and BLACK !
10

72. Regan walks up the farm’s driveway. With her, we are in total silence. She looks
around at the last remnants of the fireworks, like the last indications of a war battle.
Off in the distance, the lights of the silo. A shadow creeps up on her. She sits down,
the hearing aid on her now making a beeeeeeep. She rips it from her ear - looks at it.
It is the first sound she has ever heard. But the creepy shadow is gone. Regan never
knew it was there. P. 50.9

73. Regan walks the path near the cornfield to the clearing. The deer carcass. But no
sign of Marcus. Suddenly, a hand appears from under the deer. Marcus! He
scrambles out from under the dead deer. Regan, just like her dad, signals to Marcus
to remain calm; to not be in fear.

74. Lee carries Evelyn, who holds the baby, toward the barn. Determination on Lee’s
face. The baby starts to move. Lee hurries more. The baby CRIES and opens its eyes !
The barn doors getting closer and closer. Lee sprints now! Behind him a tree snaps.
A screeeech! Lee is unfazed. Hurries more. P. 53.2

75. Lee, in the barn, bursts into the safe room! He slides the heavy mattress over the
hole. BLACK. Above, we can tell, the creatures are in the barn. Terrible sounds. Lee
uses a lighter to illuminate the place. Lee holds his new born child and puts the
plastic mask over the child’s nose and lowers the crying child into the quilted box.
An air cannister feeds air through lines into the box. Lee covers the box and we no
longer hear the crying child. But the banging and screeeeeching by the creatures
above increase.

76. Regan and Marcus run up a path along the cornfield to the silo. Regan’s POV as they
climb the silo. P. 54.5

77. In the safe room, an IV in Evelyn’s arm. She awakens to see Lee holding the baby.
She asks “It worked?” Lee: “yes. You are safe.” Lee places the baby in Evelyn’s arms.
It’s a boy. She asks, where is Marcus? Lee: “I’ll find them.” Evelyn, “them?” Marcus:
“they are smart. They’ll be okay.” Then Evelyn reminisces about how she could have
carried Beau at the bridge. She asks, “who are we, if we can’t protect them?” Lee
consoles her. Evelyn, “you have to protect them!” Lee, “I will.” P. 57.2

78. On silo’s roof, Marcus sits before the fire drum, the fire about to go out. Regan
11

squirts more lighter fluid on it, but the hope is leaving her face. Marcus signs “He’ll
come for us.”

79. Lee comes out of the hole of the safe room. The monsters have made a mess in the
barn. Lee moves out of frame and we see a stream of water move across the floor.

80. At the silo, Regan gazes at the stars. She fiddles with her hearing aid, hoping to hear
something, to no avail. Marcus sits on a small tool, looking out upon the farm.
Marcus signs: “he’ll come.” Regan scoffs, but sees the small box which Lee kept the
picture of Beau in. She opens it. BLACK p. 58.8

81. In the safe room, Evelyn awakens to the sound of running water. But the mattress
above has been moved. She looks down and her feet are covered in water. She sees a
large black shape. A SNORT! The silhouette is above the crib! The creature’s scales
rotate, trying to hone in on sound. Evelyn moves, the sound of water waves draw the
creature’s attention. Because of the sound of the dripping water, the creature
doesn’t know exactly where Evelyn is. Evelyn slowly moves through the water. The
plates on the creature’s back open wide, trying to discern the sound. Evelyn calmly
takes the baby from the crib; retreats. The creature hears the water sounds. She
retreats and retreats through cascading water. She leans against a dirt wall, the
water - like a small waterfall - in front of her. Through the water, Evelyn sees the
hideous creature. P. 61.2

82. Lee in the cornfield. At the tractor where Marcus hid under the deer, he finds blood.

83. At the silo, Regan examines the little box. Anger. Regan says “we can’t stay here. We
must go.” Marcus: “he’ll come.” Regan, “he’ll come for you.” And Marcus plunges out
of frame, a loud metal sound.

84. In the safe room, Evelyn sees the creature’s mouth open but it turns its head toward
the sound of the silo - and it is gone. P. 62.4

85. Cornfield tractor, Lee tries to tell where the metal grating sound comes from. He
looks to the silo. A sound like swarming bees heads for Lee.

86. At the silo, Regan looks down through the metal doors Marcus fell through. Marcus
is in a mountain of corn, sinking more with every movement. Regan signs for him to
12

stop moving. The screeeeeching sounds get closer. Marcus thrashes more and sinks
into the corn more. She jumps down into the hole....

87. ...Regan goes into the corn to her waist. Regan pushes the fallen steel door toward
her brother. Marcus gets atop the door which prevents him from sinking. He reaches
for Regan’s hand, but she sinks below the surface.

88. Dark inside the silo. A whirring sound. Then the sound fades. P. 64.75

89. Marcus claws trying to find Regan. But a hole in the side of the silo - made by the
creatures - causes the corn to seep out of the silo. Marcus slides toward the
creatures.

90. Silo - the sound fades back in. Then a boom, boom and light pokes into the dark
world.

91. Regan’s hand pokes up away from the cascading corn.

92. Lee, with a flashlight, runs on a path next to the cornfield.

93. Marcus pulls Regan onto the door. Marcus puts finger to mouth, “be quiet.” But they
realize the monsters are gone. Then a door above squeaks and a monster jumps into
the corn, its plates and mouth completely open. Marcus pulls the door over he and
Regan. Marcus sees that Regan is in pain from the sound in her hearing aid. The
monster scrapes at the protective door. But then the monster disappears. Regan
and Marcus leave through the large hole in the silo’s side. Marcus takes Regan to his
safe place, and he gets inside the pick up truck. She dives beneath it. P. 67.75

94. Lee appears near the silo and truck, dawn now. He sees the hole in the silo. He walks
toward it. Regan sees Lee, and tries to warn him, but Lee doesn’t see her.

95. In the farmhouse basement, camera pans onto the security monitors. Evelyn, with
the baby, approach it.

96. The truck’s rearview mirror shows Lee’s flashlight scan the silo. Marcus whispers
“dad, no.” Marcus opens the pick up truck’s door.

13

97. The aged truck’s door creaks a noise.

98. Lee’s head turns toward the sound and sees his son. Lee runs toward Marcus. P.68.9

99. Regan rolls from under the car and tackles Marcus back into the truck, closing its
door.

100. Inside the truck, Regan puts Marcus under the steering wheel to protect him. She
looks back to see ...

101. Lee running ...

102. Inside the truck, Regan watches her father run, then behind him two shadows ...

103. Lee, now only 40 yards away. But the two shadows blow past Lee. He sees them
close in on the truck.

104. Inside the truck, Regan sees the creatures get closer, closer. The Beeeeeeeep once
again begins to grow. Regan, to avoid the pain, turns off the hearing aid. We’re now
in total silence. Then, the truck bangs violently.

105. ... now in Lee’s POV, he sees the violence at the truck. Lee keeps running.

106. The truck begins to move and slide

107. Back in silence, Regan holds Marcus, looking for options. A monster slams the
passenger door. Glass shatters .. The truck lifts up. P.70.75

108. Lee, only 20 yards away. Lee stops as he tries to process this horror.

109. Regan looks out the truck and makes direct eye contact with her father.

110. Lee’s face turns to joy as he sees his daughter. Lee signs to Regan with his hands “I
love you.”

111. On Regan, curious, why did dad just say that. A monster atop the cab of the truck.

14

112. Lee signs “I have always loved you.” Regan eyes fill with tears. The monster’s
assault continues. Lee lets out a mighty scream of “I love you.” All sound cuts out.
Marcus’ eyes widen, knowing exactly what his dad has done. The creatures leave the
truck and charge for Lee. Marcus releases the truck’s emergency brake. P. 73.33

113. On Lee as the creatures charge toward him. The truck begins to roll down the hill.

114. Inside the truck, Regan looks back to see her dad one last time.

115. The truck, via gravity, slides toward the barn. Marcus at the wheel, driving and
crying.

116. At the security monitors, Evelyn sees the truck rattling toward the barn.

117. In the bathroom, Evelyn grabs a shot gun.

118. Through the living room windows, Evelyn watches as the truck gets near. She walks
to the porch. She hugs her two kids. They turn toward the silo to SEE WHAT IS
COMING.

119. Into the farmhouse and to Lee’s work area. A long standoff between Evelyn and the
monster.

120. Regan finally realizes what her father had been working on and she realizes the high
pitched sounds from her hearing aid disturb the monster. Regan rigs speakers to
receive the high pitch sound from her hearing aid and the monster is finally
subdued. Security monitors show many monsters running away from the farm.

* NOTE: The last two scenes contain many action beats that simply can’t be summarized
easily and cover about 7 pages.
** Also, the last sequence where Lee goes to the truck to save the kids was shot in a subtle
but significantly different manner than written in the script.
