As a teenager in 1983, I was

with aspirations of flying
the then-new F-18 for the
Marine Corps. But, haunted by having lived
in Vietnam as a child—my first memories of
life start with the Tet Offensive of 1968 in
Saigon—I went to my commanding officer
and requested a leave of absence (LOA).

its show Treasure Quest: Snake Island.
