Produced Water filtration

in the Oil&Gas Upstream sector

Background
A significant amount of water
is extracted from the wells
together with oil and/or gas.
After separation from the
hydrocarbon phase, this water
needs to be further treated
before re-injection into wells
or disposal. Produced Water
can be polluted with many
sorts of contaminants, both
dissolved and suspended;
among the suspended ones,
sand, insoluble salts, corrosion
products, residuals from
chemical treatment (corrosion
inhibitors, anti-scaling agents
etc.) can be mentioned.
In cases where solids are expected to be difficult to filter, filter aid can be applied either as
precoat and/or continuous body feeding.

Benefits of FUNDABAC®
DrM filters allow to replace
a number of equipment
commonly installed for
Produced Water treatment
(settlers, hydrocyclones,
cartridge filters) with a single
sophisticated system removing
all sorts of suspended solids
down to ~0.5 µm, operating
in fully automatic mode and
with virtually no need for
operator intervention. Routine
maintenance only consists in
the periodic (yearly) replacement of textile filter cloths. The system is completely enclosed and
is therefore ideally suited to deal with with HSE issues (e.g. presence of toxic or dangerous
substances such as H 2S, NORMS, Hg). Thanks to the possibility of using filter aid when the
process medium presents a reduced filterability, DrM filters can be effectively used both for
normal and for periodic, intermittent cleaning operations when the solids generated by the
system and their tendency to foul increases dramatically (pigging, solids removal from upstream
vessels etc.).

The dry discharge option allows for the disposal of a dry cake with solid content as high as 70%
(see above picture). Wastes are therefore minimised and can be easily handled for trouble-free
disposal or incineration.
