Alfonso Ugarte

Alfonso Ugarte was born in the city of Iquique, province of Tarapacá on July 13, 1847 and died
in Arica on June 7, 1880.

He liked the studies a lot, that´s why he studied for accountant in his homeland, years later he
became a merchant and farmer, and his father left him in charge of his business so that he
could see and manage them. Since he saw that he was a very humble and understanding
person who knew how to treat his workers with respect while taking responsability at work .

He was a military man and a hero in the Pacific War where he participated in the battle of San
Francisco and the battle of Arica staying in command of the Squadron of the eighth división of
the Arica defense, where the threw himself off the hill to defend the Peruvian flag.

Tha has been a brief summary of the story of Mr. Alfonso Ugarte.
