Module 7 Discussion

Students are required to answer one of the following questions/topics:

After reading the articles (listed) about communication, discuss how you believe
communication impacts patient care in the clinical setting? What are some examples of
communication breakdown or conflict, and what implications do they have in the clinical
setting? Why do you think there is conflict in the healthcare settings, and what are some ways
to address conflict before it impacts patient safety and quality of care?

After reviewing the articles on professional boundaries in the clinical setting, discuss why you
think it is important to maintain professional boundaries with your patients and their family
members. Would you be able to safely provide care for a friend or family member? Is this an
ethical and appropriate situation for nurses? When might personal relationships with patients
and or other healthcare team members become problematic in the clinical setting?
