The Chilina Bridge

During my adolescence, Alto Selva Alegre district has changed in several aspects, in this case I
´m going to mention one case: The creation of the Chilina bridge today allows for quick access
between Cayma and Alto Selva Alegre.

For its creation there were many obstacles and challenges. It was decided not to allow free
transit through both districts for more than a year.

Another challenge was to cross a valley considered a world heritage site, to pass over a
thermoelectric plant, to apply the most modern construction methods and also involved the
effort and sacrifice of more than 100 workers and engineers.

The man who was able to make this dream come true was Juan Manuel Guillen Benavides, the
former Regional President of Arequipa, as well as other entities that managed resources,
technology and a lot of work.

Southern Corporation, Interbank and Backus.

The purpose was to finish it in 22 weeks and it was done,

For its construction, the most advanced technology in the world was used, therefore it is the
most ambitious work in Arequipa.

Some experts suggest that the bridge is designed to support 150 vehicles that travel across the
bridge daily, it seems that not even a large scale earthquake could collapset.

To conclude cityzens want a metal mesh across the bridge because it prevent suicides and
protect pedestrians from accidents.
