Math Support: 2nd Grade

Hello parents!
While we strive to constantly and consistently work with students and help them to succeed to their fullest, a little
help outside of the classroom is always needed. Below I will be providing you with a list of wonderful tools to help
your child succeed outside of the classroom! With each tool I will be providing you a description, a picture and ways
to access the item in case you make the decision to purchase it.

o C-Pen Reader: The C-Pen Reader is a portable and pocket-sized device that reads
text aloud with an English, Spanish, and French human like digital voice. This type
of tool is great for a child who may struggle with reading word problems. For
example, MAFS.2.OA.1.a are expected to be able to determine the whole number
in an equation, but of the struggle to read the equations then this tool would be
perfect. If you wish to purchase this tool you can go on to Amazon.com and type
in C-Pen Reader and purchase it through there!

o Number Line: The number line is going to be perfect for any student who may
struggle to mentally add or subtract math in their head. MAFS.2.OA.2.2 requires
that students are able to add and subtract using mental strategies. This tool is a
simple number line that they can use at home when they are doing adding and
subtracting problems and get stuck and cannot figure it out mentally. If you wish
to purchase this, you are able to go to Staples!

o Clock: MAFS.2.MD.3.7 requires that students be able to write and tell from digital
clocks to the nearest five minutes. The clock pictured below is perfect for
practicing time with your child at home. We encourage that you practice by
moving the clock to a random time and having the student write the time to the
nearest five minutes. Again, this is an inexpensive tool that you are able to
purchase at Staples.

o Talking Calculator: A Talking Calculator has a built-in speech synthesizer that can
read aloud numbers, symbols, or operation keys a user press. It can also vocalize
the answer to a problem. This tool just like the Number Line can be extremely
helpful when it comes lesson such as adding, subtracting and more. If you wish to
purchase this item then you can go to Maxiaids.com! These are super affordable!

o Graphic Organizer: This helps to break down and lay out the steps for solving
math problems. These can be digital or simply by using pen and paper. This is a
simple tool in which there will be spaces that can allow for the student to keep
track of important numbers or for writing. This is by far the most inexpensive
product on the list simply because all you need as mentioned is really a pen and
paper which you can buy at almost any store.

I hope this list has given you guys ideas on tools that you can purchase to help you
child further succeed outside of the classroom. If you have any further questions,
