Portfolio Artifact Description: Graffiti Painting - Using drawing tools create a monster out of
the professor's picture and write a fictional story to go with it

What you learned/overcame: I had my sister teach me how to use her favorite drawing
application from her phone. Thankfully I have a tablet, so I was able to use that paired with a
stylus to make my graffiti art detailed. I could not find any inspiration for a design so just started
doodling at first and from there it became a four-day long project. I spent too much time drawing
and forgot about having to write the short story which lead me to take the campground story
route. It was kind of hard writing through my imagination because I hadn’t done it in years but
I’m really glad I was able to break that cycle.

ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for STUDENTS (NETS)•S Addressed:

Standard #6 CREATIVE COMMUNICATOR 6b: students create original works or responsibly
repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future: I would use this project around Halloween time
and/or while reading Frankenstein. Having students get in touch with their own creativity and
allowing them to express themselves in this unexpected manner is really important. It’s a good
thing to have a nice little comfort zone but being outside of it shouldn’t be scary. This exercise is
a good way to get that ball rolling.
