1.5 AVEVA's total liability in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, arising in connection with
the performance of the AVEVA software shall be limited to 100% of the licence fees paid in the year in
which the user's claim is brought.
1.6 Clauses 1.1 to 1.5 shall apply to the fullest extent permissible at law.
1.7 In the event of any conflict between the above clauses and the analogous clauses in the software
licence under which the AVEVA software was purchased, the clauses in the software licence shall take
precedence.

3 INTRODUCTION
This guide is intended for IT managers and support staffs who are planning to implement AVEVA ERM.
• Technical Architecture gives an overview of the major hardware, software and network components
• Hardware & Software gives detailed requirements of the hardware, operating system, software packages
& version numbers
• Communications identifies the network requirements
This issue of the Guide identifies the platforms which AVEVA is planning to support for AVEVA ERM. Where
AVEVA has current reservations about specific component releases these are highlighted in the text. AVEVA
reserves the right to modify this document to reflect any additional findings during final testing of the
AVEVA ERM.
4 TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE
This section gives an overview of the major hardware, software and network components required to
implement AVEVA ERM.

AVEVA ERM is implemented using a three-tier architecture, which consists of the following components:
4.1.1 AVEVA ERM Database Server

The database server runs Oracle12c (64-bit) or Oracle18c (64-bit) database software, which contains the
data and a portion of the application logic.
4.1.2 AVEVA ERM Application Server

The Application Server contains the bulk of the application logic, and runs on Microsoft Internet
Information Services (IIS).
The Application Server communicates with the database server via the Oracle Net protocol.
4.1.3 Client (PC) tier

The client runs the client part of the AVEVA ERM application.
Client software communicates with the Application Server using the TCP protocol.
4.1.4 AVEVA Licensing Server

AVEVA ERM licensing is managed by the AVEVA License Server (ALS) using FlexMan licensing. Prior to
running AVEVA ERM, the ALS software should be installed and license keys obtained. This is described in
the document flexman.pdf on your product CD.
4.2 Architecture Considerations

This section gives general recommendations for common architecture questions.
4.2.1 Licensing
For customers who have an AVEVA License Server (ALS) service already running is recommended that the
existing license file is extended to include the AVEVA ERM licenses.

For customers running the older, stand-alone FlexMan product for licensing other AVEVA products, the
other products may continue to use FlexMan services unchanged, installing a new ALS service hosting
licenses for AVEVA ERM. Alternatively, install both AVEVA ERM licenses and the customer’s existing
FlexMan license file onto a new ALS service. A new ALS license service is required in any case.
For customers new to AVEVA products, ALS can be installed on any robust server within the LAN – the
AVEVA ERM Application Server is recommended where AVEVA ERM is the only application present.
AVEVA ERM has been tested with ALS 1.x, ALS 2.0 and ALS 4.0.
4.2.2 Static IP Address

It is recommended that the Database Server and Application Server are configured with a static IP address
(as for any production server). For Off-Network installations and support for DHCP please review the
document Oracle documentation for details.
5 HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

This section gives detailed requirements of the hardware, operating system, software packages & version
numbers required to implement AVEVA ERM.
5.1 International Operating System Support

Where the text identifies operating systems (e.g. Windows7) or 3rd party packages (e.g. Office 2007) then
AVEVA ERM has been comprehensively tested with the English versions.
5.2 AVEVA ERM Database Server

5.2.1 Character Set Support
Supported character set in the AVEVA ERM Database Server is AL32UTF8 allowing storage of all characters,
single and multi-byte. Server messages etc. can be localised by changing the NLS_LANG database setup
parameter.
5.2.2 Hardware and Operating System

The hardware given below is divided into small, medium, large and extra-large setups. For special
requirements, please contact AVEVA support.

• Operating System: Linux, HP-Unix, AIX, Solaris, Windows

Medium • Processor: Xeon E3-1230 V3 @ 3.30 GHz (or better)
• 1200 IOPS
Large • Processor: Xeon E3-1231 V3 @ 3.40 GHz (or better)

• 2000 IOPS
X-Large • Processors: Xeon E5-1650 V2 @ 3.50 GHz (or better)
• 3000 IOPS
• Operating System: Linux, HP-Unix, AIX, Solaris Windows
5.2.3 Software
Oracle Database Standard Edition minimum version 12.2.0.1 (64-bit) or 12.2.0.2 (64-bit).
5.2.4 Configuration
Sizing of the server is very dependent upon the number of concurrent AVEVA ERM users, the number of
Oracle instances running and what, if any, other software and user communities are using the server.
Recommended configurations are given above, for assistance in sizing a system please contact AVEVA
support.
In a production environment, the database server should have archivelog enabled and (at least) daily
backups.
5.3 AVEVA ERM Application Server

5.3.1 Hardware and Operating system
The hardware given below is divided into small, medium, large and extra-large setups. For special
requirements, please contact AVEVA support.

Small • Processor: Xeon E3-1220 V3 (or better)
• Operating System: Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows
Server 2016
Medium • Processor: Xeon E3-1240 V2 (or better)
Server 2016
Large • Processor: Xeon E5-2650 V2 (or better)
Server 2016
X-Large • Processors: 2 x Xeon E5-2650 V2 (or better)

5.3.2 Software
• Microsoft .NET framework v. 4.8.
• Internet Information Services (IIS) v. 7 or higher.
5.3.3 Configuration
Sizing of the server is very dependent upon the number of concurrent AVEVA ERM users and what, if any
other software and user communities are using the server. Recommended configurations are given above.
For assistance in sizing the system please contact AVEVA support.
5.4 AVEVA ERM Client

• Processor: Intel i5 or i7 or equivalent (or better)
• Memory: 4 GB minimum
• Disk: 4 GB free space
• Operating system: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit preferred)
For individuals working in the Planning/Production area of the application, the recommended amount of
memory is 16 GB (64-bit required).
For individuals working with 4D planning, it is recommended that the client machine has a graphics adapter
with 3D acceleration support.
5.4.2 Software

5.5 AVEVA ERM Mobility Client

The AVEVA ERM Mobility app is developed for and tested on the following hardware:
Panasonic Toughpad FZ-M1 with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, Intel Core i5-4302Y processor, 7" WXGA 1280 x
800 display and an external Intermec SF61B Bluetooth 2D barcode scanner.
Other hardware can be used, but may not deliver the same user experience.
Minimum requirements:
• Processor: Intel Core i5

• Memory: 4 GB
• Display: 7” WXGA 1280 x 80 with multi touch
• Disk: 4 GB free
• Operating system: Windows 8.1 Pro/Enterprise or Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise (64-bit preferred)
• Barcode scanner: Supporting both 2D and 1D
5.5.2 Software
• Microsoft .NET framework v. 4.6.2.
5.6 AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal Web Server

The Supplier Portal is designed to scale horizontally, but with the current feature set, it seems unlikely that
the Supplier Portal is to be put under high load by many simultaneous users. We therefore recommend a
setup where the Supplier Portal is deployed on a single application server similar to the “Small” AVEVA ERM
Application Server:

• Memory: 16GB (or more)

5.6.2 Software
• Microsoft .NET framework v. 4.8.
• Internet Information Services (IIS) v. 7 or higher.
5.6.3 Configuration
The AVEVA ERM environments are generally expected to be available only on secured internal networks,
but the AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal needs to be accessible from the Internet and therefore needs to be
protected by standard industry means.
An example setup is illustrated in the figure below.

In general, for a setup in production, it is recommend to take at least the following into account:
- The Supplier Portal is deployed in a DMZ.

o The back-end firewall allows traffic from the Supplier Portal in the DMZ to reach the AVEVA
ERM application server and the AVEVA ERM database.
o The front-end firewall allows traffic to reach the Supplier Portal in the DMZ.
▪ To reduce the number of possible attack vectors, the front-end firewall should be
configured with a white-list of IP-addresses allowed to access the Supplier Portal
(i.e. IP-addresses of the suppliers invited to use the system).
- HTTPS must always be used.
Please refer to the AVEVA ERM Installation Guide for further details.
5.7 AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal Client

The Supplier Portal has the following hardware requirements:
• A standard consumer laptop or desktop is recommended.
The Supplier Portal has the following operating system requirements:
• The Supplier Portal is tested on the latest major browsers running on Windows 7 x64 and Windows
8 x64. We do not require clients to be running Windows, but we do not offer support for clients
seeing problems that can only be reproduced on operating systems different from Windows 7 and
Windows 8.
5.7.2 Software
Since the Supplier Portal client is a browser application, the only software required to use the Supplier
Portal client is a browser. The following browsers are supported by the Supplier Portal:
• Internet Explorer v. 11 (or newer)

• Chrome v. 40 (or newer)
• Firefox v. 35 (or newer)
6 INTEGRATION AND INTERFACES

For up to date information on compatibility of AVEVA products refer to the Compatibility Matrix on the
AVEVA Customer Support Web Site.
7 COMMUNICATIONS
This section identifies the network requirements.
7.1 AVEVA ERM Database and Application Servers

The AVEVA ERM Database Server and AVEVA ERM Application Server must be in close proximity (in
network terms) preferably on a common high-bandwidth backbone within the same computer room.
7.2 AVEVA ERM Client

The minimum recommended network requirements between the AVEVA ERM client and app-server are:
• Bandwidth: 10 Mbit
• Latency: Less than 20ms
• A wired connection is recommended.
Please note: AVEVA ERM will run on lower network speeds than described above, but the user might
experience longer response times.
7.3 AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal Web Server

The Supplier Portal server must be placed in a DMZ being in close proximity (in network terms) to the
AVEVA ERM database server and the AVEVA ERM application server.
7.4 AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal Client

The minimum recommended network requirements between the AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal client and the
AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal Web Server are:
• Bandwidth: 10 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload

• Latency: Less than 20ms
Please note: the AVEVA ERM Supplier Portal client will run on lower network speeds than described above,
but the user is likely to experience longer response times.
