16 NEW STUDIES FROM GRADE 3 THROUGH 6 for Trumpet Written for and performed by ene ° Philip Smith Principal Trumpet * New York Philharmonic Coe Concert Studies for Trumpet INTRODUCTORY LETTER Itis with great pleasure that in conjunction with Curnow Music Press, we are able to present to trumpeters, young and old, this music album of CONCERT STUDIES. Ihave enjoyed practicing these studies in preparation for the enclosed demonstration CD, and found them all to be challenging in many different ways. All of the studies are first and foremost musically satisfying and stylistically varied. The difficulty level of this music will be best-suited for the intermediate to advanced player. Conceived for the Bb Trumpet or Cornet, the full range of the instrument is explored, from low F# to high D. Many of the studies give ample time to lyrical expression, much needed by all trumpet players. Technique is not overlooked. In these studies you will find double and triple tonguing, low register playing, challenging intervals, and key signatures that require intonation control of the instrument. want to personally thank all of the composers who have contributed to this project. Thanks also to Jim Curnow, Tim Johnson, and staff at Curnow Music Press, and to David Henderson, our recording engineer. To those trumpeters who are going to work on these CONCERT STUDIES, above all else - HAVE FUN!
