My dear Sir, I’m in love with your wife

and want to marry her.

Illicit affair gone sour
By :- Gagandeep Singh

The news of an Indian Army officer killing his alleged

lover, who was also wife of a fellow officer hit the news
headlines in the fag end of June 2018. It’s not that
incidents of Army personnel caught on wrong foot are
any uncommon nowadays but this one has crossed all
limits.
An officer posted at far North East region of the
country befriend wife of another officer and during the
course of next three years, as per media reports,
manages to establish deep relations with her. Once the
lady moves to the national capital consequent to the
posting of husband, the accused follows her there and
persists on his proposal to marry her. All this while,
both of them carry on with their routine married life
with respective legally wed partners and offsprings.
One fateful day, lover acts decisively. He calls her up
and meets her at a hospital. She willing gets into his
luxury sedan and both drove down to a secluded area
of Army Cantt. What happened between them is a
matter of speculation. The picture appearing thereafter
showed her dishevelled clothes when her body was
found on a road in a pool of blood. Her throat had
been slit and she had been run over by the vehicle.
The media termed the incident as desperate measure
taken by an “obsessive” lover. Given the circumstantial
evidence, including video calls between the two,
eagerness of deceased to get into the car and her
husband aware of the relationship, it can be anything
but a one-sided affair gone too far. The Facebook
profile of murdered and the ‘murderer’ didn’t have the
photos with family, contrary to prevailing trend in
India. It suspiciously point towards their strained
marital status. It’s interesting to observe that both of
their better halves however had posted family pictures.
The wife of the accused even had his name along with
hers on the display. The psychology suggests that while
one side was prepared to give fractured marriage
another chance, the other side either considered it
over or was dragging it on.
Given the stress factor and ever reducing quality time,
nowadays strained relationships are common among
couples in the age bracket of 25-35 years. In the era of
2 minute noodles the bonding between two different
personalities is considered instant post marriage,
without giving any time to nurture it. Even concrete
requires time to get desired strength. The relatives
exert additional pressure by labelling them as ‘made
for each other’. The essence of love and understanding
starts getting crumpled under the stress of being seen
as “happily married”. Only God can save those who
have a nagging in-law to compound the issue further.
Such marriages are always a non starter and remains
like pulling of plough by bullocks. These families are
often named as ‘perfect families’ in later years. More
ferocious ones part their ways for good. Few with poor
values and moral turpitude try to find solace in the
company of another partner from some other
marriage. In common language it is called ‘extra
marital affair’ and in Army it is called ‘stealing affection
of brother officers wife’. There is no terminology in
case the act involves a lady officer with the husband of
a colleague. Perhaps they are waiting for an episode to
make suitable amendments.
The social media platforms play an important role and
are major driving factor behind the depleting moral
standards of the society. The constant urge to get
‘likes’, to have maximum friends and flattering
comments on the pics at the ‘voyeuristic sites’, politely
named as socialising or connecting platforms makes
person to fake reality. People with low self control gets
obsessive to the stage that they start emulating
falseness in real life. Yes, such portals have the
potential to dangerously play with your mind. They
have the ability to encourage you to get engaged in
voyeur. Almost everyone becomes a peeping tom
looking into others lives through FB, Insta, Pin etc.
Haven’t you checked out your friends account to know
where he had been during holidays or to find out the
kind of friends your relatives have? It is the starting
point of race to self destruction. Few with poor loyalty
standards complete this race faster than others. As has
happened in the current scenario, leaving one dead
and other behind bars.
Illicit should never be morphed as right to individual
choice. It’s high time we stop pretending and start
projecting what we actually are. If the tendency to
show off is not curbed, even if we don’t get entangled
in a bigger mess, the peace of mind is bound to get
doomed. Simplistic life and humility is the need of the
hour. It’s applicable to every sphere of life be it family,
friends or religion. Otherwise, case of an armyman
authorised to kill adversaries training his knife on near
ones will repeat, may be in some different form.
