Lixx: Loose on You and Diamond Star Halo

New Wave of British Heavy Metal Blog

Here’s a good ‘un for you. Lixx. My thanks to vocalist Joe Ogilvie for getting in touch and being
kind enough to send me the band’s CDs for me to check out.

For the uninitiated, Lixx originate from Scotland. All the way back in the 1980s they were looking
well set for success.

A stonking debut album (Loose on You) and lots of positive noise from the music bizz.

Let me tell you – no mistake – Loose on You is indeed stonking. Filled to the rafters with
monster, monster rifferama, big crisp chords, big, big sound and “to the point” lead breaks with
no waste which hit hard.

Oh, and plenty of anthemic style shout along vocals.

Crank it up, play it loud. Marvellous.

Think new wave of British (or Scottish…..) hair metal. It’s not unlike Poison, Ratt, Motley Crue
but better. Much better.

Want some aural proof? Then here you are. The opening track – One Way Ride.

The rest of Loose on You is in a similar vein. Freeloader, Hot Shot, Plain Jane et al. Not hard to
see why Lixx were bigged up on the back of this debut.

It’s not an easy to find CD though is available as a re-issue via Demon Doll Records. Link
follows at the foot of this post.

Though what happened in the early 1990s? This style of music was pushed out by the “grunge”
thing when that came along and took out Lixx with it.

Spring forward to the present day (April 2020 as I type this). And Lixx are back!

A new album out – Diamond Star Halo. And what a return it is. The band hasn’t missed a step.

All the good stuff and style from the old days remains and it’s a cracking listen.

Those big, muscular riffs, sharp lead work, pounding rhythm section and Joe’s lung-busting
vocals.

All rocks along with some force and not a little melody built in to make it as catchy as a cricket
ball heading to first slip (hope that’s a reasonable analogy……).

Have a listen to Long Way:

It’s hard to pick out highlights as the whole album is a highlight. Strong right the way through
from top to bottom.

Cuts such as In for the Kill, Thrill of it All etc. have the band on top form. Very enjoyable.

So where to get Lixx’ stuff from.
