Biomedical Engineer Job Duties and Responsibilities
 Find solutions for biological and medical problems through innovative designs,
programs, tests, etc.
 Develop and design computer software systems and simulations that serve a medical
function
 Purchase of equipment’s (which includes inviting quotions/tenders for purchasing new
equipment/machines & preparing comparison chart for the same)
 Inspection of incoming equipment and machinery and doing pre acceptance test before
official acceptance and payment
 Writing and preparing specifications for all the equipment’s and machinery
 Directs operation of biomedical equipment by providing demonstrations, supplying
information and data, instructing others in the care and use of equipment, and answering
all questions
 Keeps biomedical equipment in working order by performing tests, following preventive
maintenance guides, repairing and troubleshooting break downs, evaluating service
contracts, ordering special services if necessary, and maintaining inventories
 Test, evaluate and improve upon existing equipment and devices currently in use
 Test and analyze the effectiveness of biomedical equipment or systems
 Installs new equipment by adjusting, establishing, testing, and calibrating performance
 Install, maintain and service biomedical equipment or programs as necessary
 Ensure all biomedical equipment is safe and effective and take action to change and
improve it if necessary
 Setting standards and ensuring their compliance
 Maintains a healthy and safe working environment by fulfilling and recommending
procedures, performing safety tests, complying with codes, and guiding and training
health care and medical person
 Present reports and research findings in order to help spread and share your knowledge
and further life-saving developments
 Maintaining equipment inventory for all existing and upcoming equipment’s
 Keeping record of the spares/consumables
 Approves potential biomedical equipment by guaranteeing that codes are adhered to
 Maintains supplies inventory by foreseeing needs, counting stock, placing orders, and
verifying delivery
 Maintaining records eg equipment history
 Prepares reports by analyzing, collecting, and recapping trends and information
 Carries out the goals of the organization by exploring opportunities to add significance to
job duties, and by accomplishing different and innovative requests
 Evaluating the equipment and machinery on the basis of its initial cost as well as its
operating coast of the equipment turns out to be much higher than its initial cost
 Maintaining equipment to its best performance by organizing planned maintenance
program for all equipment’s and attending emergency break down and repairs
 Arranging training for clinical staff and engineering staff
 Train medical personnel on device purpose and proper, effective usage
 Advising and providing expertise to medical staff and administration
 Active involvement in the activities of hospital safety committee and checking safety
hazards
 Monitoring contract services
